Adblockers not allowed on utube

Just right click on the YouTube video in Windows Edge and select "Open Link in Private Window"

Works great no adds, no blocks.
That's pretty much what I do with both Firefox and Vivaldi. Occasionally there is a delay in the video starting. My guess it's the time delay where an ad might be, but I'm not seeing the ads.

After viewing the video in a private window, if I wish to make a comment or up-vote the video, I'll bring up the video page in a regular window and do it there without having to play the video/ads.

Update

It looks like YouTube is rolling out an effort to make ad-blockers more difficult to use. ARS Technica reports here

YouTube has launched a global front against ad-blocking extensions, taking a small experiment it began in June full-scale.

As noticed by Android Authority on Monday morning, some YouTube users are now seeing a disruptive prompt when they try to watch videos while using a browser with an ad blocker. The prompt notes that "ad blockers violate YouTube's Terms of Service" and urges users to either allow ads on YouTube or subscribe to YouTube Premium.

They reported a statement by Google
The use of ad blockers violate YouTube’s Terms of Service. We’ve launched a global effort to urge viewers with ad blockers enabled to allow ads on YouTube or try YouTube Premium for an ad free experience. Ads support a diverse ecosystem of creators globally and allow billions to access their favorite content on YouTube.

LOL.
No way am I turning that off. When I watch YouTube on the tv, there are the stinking ads. Not on my laptop. I use two: Trend Micro Adblocker and AdBlock Plus. And I keep them updated.

I have uBlock Origin as my ad blocker. About a week ago, youtube was peppering me with that disable or uninstall ad blocker popup. I responding to them (on the report tab?) that I have disabled my blocking for youtube (which I did) but was still getting that popup.

(Fingers crossed) I haven't seen that popup for days now. Maybe the did something to fix or maybe just coincidence.

Frank told me yesterday that one of our favorite, very well known youtube creators just got back from a temporary ban for having used an ad blocker when he browses youtube and listens to other creators' videos. Yecch.

I haven't been using an ad blocker. Instead, I have been using "mute" and multitasking until the video starts. That isn't a perfect solution, but it's good enough for me I guess.

Sometimes the video is already in progress by the time I get to it, but I just slide the progress indicator back to where the video starts.

Often I wonder if the advertisers have any clue as to the fact that nobody is listening to their ads, and they are just annoying people who would otherwise be potential customers. :banghead:

I do wonder what type and number of ads will keep popping up in the after-life.

I must be one of the lucky few who has never gotten any sort of message or pop-up about disabling my YT ad-blocker. I use uBlock Origin and AutoplayStopper in Chrome, and every video I play has neither ads nor warning/nag messages. Hope I didn't jinx myself by posting this!

Youtube trying to stop adblockers is like the movie The Blob.

Now intermittently when I bring up videos, I get a message from Youtube saying I'm offline. This is when I'm not signed onto youtube but just browsing.

I had to take off my Adblocker in order to watch You Tube videos.

I finally saw this yesterday. Luckily for me I don't really care about YouTube, I'll either find a way around it or just stop watching.

ABSOLUTELY! Particularly when the f*****g ads interrupt a SONG! The ad-breaks are timed, plain and simple. There is no consideration given for the fact that to interrupt a SONG is simply BLASPHEMY and SUCK-HOLE behavior.

This reminds me of how happy I was to discover that if I started an episode on Amazon Prime Video and it started playing one of those horrible, repetitive ads (that are DEFINITELY not targeted in any way because we never watch football), I can back out and play the episode again, and it starts without the ad! Before that we did the same, we'd just mute it and do something else for a minute.

Not exactly :).

I went over to the alternativeto website to see what else is out there. There are plenty of other alternatives to getting zapped by youtube. One I kicked the tires of is called invidious which actually is a front end to youtube. Think of it kind of like a DuckDuckGo for Youtube

I got my first popups just yesterday, and I also run uBlock. I just closed the popups and stuff played normally - for now.

Invidious sounds interesting. I did some poking around and found this thread

To summarize: Youtube is threatening Invidious, but it's open source software, and can be renamed/cloned ad infinitum. It would be difficult to suppress- Youtube would be caught in a futile wack-a-mole. I think I'll try it out.

I've been getting the pop-up warnings about running an adblock so they did eventually get around to me too. Last time they said I only had two more videos before... something, I forget what.

At the moment Invidious is working some of the time. Some videos seem to be blocked but I'm just trying it.

I'm getting it now, too. But DuckDuckGo will play any videos that it finds in your search without you having to go to YouTube.com, so I'll probably just do that from now on.

Seems intermittent. I had the pop up warning a few weeks back. But lately haven't got any pop ups at all. The cat and mouse game continues ...

Same for me. I use the Brave browser which has updated a couple times since I first started getting Youtube warnings but I'm not sure if Brave improved their filters or if Youtube has backed off.

For now using a private window (Firefox) seems to be working so I'll use that.

I'm a Brave user also.

Oddly enough I haven't changed anything and have not been getting it. I don't quite understand what the deal is. Using FF but not a private window.

I usually only view youtube videos on either my primary laptop or my desktop. Both have identical setups with Chrome browser and uBlock Origin although my desktop uses my Pi-Hole server for DNS while my laptop does not.

I get the ad blocker warnings on my laptop but never have on my desktop which I use the most by far. My understanding is Pi-Hole is not effective blocking ads on youtube so I have no clue what the key is.

The warnings have come back now for me after about 2-3 weeks of peace and quiet.
