Got up late. Made gizzard casserole.

Today....got up late, made some coffee and surfed the net this morning. Then went to a New Year's Day party to watch some football and stuff my face with some good food. And it was pretty darn good too. Had roast pork, collard greens, black eyed peas, mac and cheese, corn bread and a few other odds and ends. Followed up by some good old Mississippi mud pie. Back home now watching the Rose Bowl although it's time to find something else to watch. Pretty much a blow out.:-\

Doted on the new foster kitten, went to Costo, visited mom, made home made pizza, doted some more on the new foster kitten, watched Wall-e on DVD with DH and loved it. Good way to start the new year.

Talked to my best friend which was great. Played a few online games with friends. About to hit the treadmill. Great day for the New Year :D

Ron, what was the experience like? Did you feel like you might drown or get stuck, or was it pretty clear that you'd get out? What caused the leg to break??

It was quite an experience. I was skating full speed through a narrow channel about 30 feet wide close to shore to avoid ice ruts created by snowmobiles. I noticed the area of thin ice at the last second but could not avoid it and fell through. I hit bottom quickly because the water was only 4 or 5 feet deep. The bottom was very sandy and it seemed like my skates were sinking in the sand. I tried to pull myself up on the ice, but it kept breaking. So I broke the ice to shore (about 10'), climbed up a 5' high bank and rested a few minutes while I took off my skates. Then I limped home about a half mile in my stocking feet. I was more worried about frostbite than anything else.

My leg broke at the top of my skates, so it probably twisted when I went through the ice or when my feet hit bottom.

Pretty good day today. Played my first 2009 round of golf and shot 73. Don't know where that came from, haven't played well lately. And while I'm gone, the stock market has a good first day.:) Now just waiting on the Sugar Bowl to start.

That for 9 or 18?

Got up late...again! Surfed the 'net for a while, then got cleaned up & dressed and went for BBQ with a friend of mine from out of town...it was her turn to buy. Sloughed off all afternoon, then went to the monthly county-wide country/bluegrass jam tonight downtown at the Episcopal church....ate supper there as well. (We'll also go there Sunday for their monthly community-wide free spaghetti dinner!)

There's another jam tomorrow night in a tiny farm community about 10 miles north of here...not sure if we'll venture up there or not....but we may!

There's a jam almost every weekend somewhere around here...usually both Friday & Saturday nights.....they're always free admission, and although they don't ask for any, they do accept donations to cover advertising and food & drinks served.

Picked up the motorcycle last Monday, and found out I'd forgotten a lot about riding one. Scariest moment was the turn out of the dealer's driveway. Rode it home - slowly! - and spent the rest of the afternoon practicing slow turns in the courts around the development here. Tuesday was more of the same, and went to a HS parking lot to practice figure eights and got to the point where I can do them without putting a foot down.

Got brave (foolish?) enough to take a 40-minute ride to show it to BIL, who brightened my day by telling me of seeing a motorcyclist hit a deer two days before. Even wearing all the cold-weather gear I own I was still somewhat chilled by the time I got back and that in 40 F temps.

Right now it's back at the dealer's having back-ordered accessories installed - extra lights, crash bars, luggage rack, etc. Given the weather forecast (rain, ice, snow) it'll probably stay there for a week unless they want to trailer it here.

Going to work 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm today. That's fine, given the weather I'd be home watching TV anyway.

I am proud to report that the most difficult thing I did today was to grind up some Asiago cheese to put on top of the meatballs in sauce and fresh bread I made today. Life is good! :D
Music on public radio went from classical to Broadway show tunes to Big Band, and is now back to classical.

The hardest thing I did all day, was go downtown to the Episcopal church for the free community s'ghetti dinner! Yum! :D

Oh, and I refilled the bird feeders.

Wow, you get to leave the house to go to work?! I haven't got to do that in 21 months! I have to spend all my time goofing off all day and having fun......I never get to go to work! :(

;) :) :D :D :2funny:

Finally got to the orthopedic doctor today after breaking my ankle on New Years Eve. Got the official cast put on. No surgery needed, which the doctor said is rare for my type of break. Driving with the cast is going to be a chore. Cant do much but watch TV and do some work from home. Had 2 glasses of wine and I'm ready for bed at 6:30.

Well, it's good, at least, that you're able to stick to your normal routine.

Got up at 10:00, had fruit for breakfast, went to Aldi's (see earlier thread re: Aldi's) and saved about 60% on our grocery bill, had turkey sandwiches for lunch. We took our dog for a walk, watched "Beverly Hillbillies" movie on demand (fun!), had a hot buttered rum (baby, it's cold outside!) Rum Drink Recipe - Hot Buttered Rum - Hot Drinks.

Then we made salads for dinner along with red wine. We went for another walk after dinner and I am currently contemplating taking a bubble bath with epsom salts in my soaking tub. DH is looking forward to having a scotch and a chocolate and watching a movie in bed, with flannel sheets and our dog. Not a bad day...

I went to the dentist and had three not-so-pretty front teeth fixed up with UV cure dental bonding material so they look all nice now. :D
It is SO nice to have self-paid dental insurance after so many years of paying 100% out of pocket with zero insurance.
