This weather is awful!! 2008-2021

The sun is shining (huge faint factor for this calendar date) and it is lightly snowing in East Nowhere NY. :D
T minus 10 days until I go for my very first snowbirding venture to FL...

I was listening to WWOZ (New Orleans) through the magic of the Internet -- 6am Denver/7am NO.

Imagine my surprise to hear the temperature was 30° (same as here in Denver) with a predicted high today of 46° (same as here) and an overnight low in the mid 20s (same as predicted for us).

It's currently 23º here in our little slice of central Texas.

We're probably looking at 16º-18º overnight early Friday and Saturday mornings, and most mornings have been down into the 20s (and will be for close to another week at least).

First it was too dry, then it was too hot, now it's too cold. You're a tough guy to please, eh? :D

Just back from walking the mutt in 20 degree temps. Not as bad as I would have thought, sun out and very little wind. Suppose to be like this all week. Looks like a good day to start reading a book. Winter time is the only time of the year I read much outside of internet forum boards.

Yeah, that's the thing -- it gets cold enough to snow down here fairly frequently, but it usually only gets that cold on calm, clear days with dry air. If there's clouds, high winds or precipiation in the area, it rarely dips below freezing.

And I'm down here (deep south Texas) complaining because it's 44 degrees out and we were cold during our walk. It's supposed to get to the low 30s overnight in a few days - same days as you list.

Thanks! You made me feel better!

Audrey

I'm working on my attitude toward winter. I bought spikes for my boots, so I can go easily and safely in the ice. I have Gor-tex parka, I have umbrella. I have sunglasses for glare, and a pack to put them in when it gets dark and rainy.

I get up well before first light, so whatever the day has to offer I am awake to accept.

This morning about 7:30, just getting light, a light rain and fog all around. I walked down to the QFC to get some eggs and a sweet onion to make an omelet. I admit I find it easier to be full of joy when the sun is shining, but fog and drizzle has its charm also.

I've had my omelet, so soon I'll head out again just to walk around and see what there is to see. Without winter, there could be no spring.

Ha

Yes, it has been COLD here! We have winter weather and freeze warnings and it isn't supposed to warm up for a few days. (Edited to add: right now at 12:30 PM, it is still only 36 out there. Brrr! I think my mailman is playing hooky because he hasn't been by since Saturday, or maybe it was Thursday.)

Yesterday it was also dark and windy. I had planned to go to the grocery store, but procrastinated because of the weather. Today I had better go, because eventually it could get icy around here.

Since I am just getting over a chest cold, I turned up the heat to 77F. Not exactly LBYM in this weather, but it sure feels nice. :) I piled up the comforters on my bed and slept in until around 10:30 this morning, all nice and toasty warm.

Winter is here also, I'm putting a yellow sticker on the door to remind me to wear a warmer coat and pack the gloves, hat and scarf. Staying on the sunny side of the street isn't enough in January.

Sounds like you are doing well on your attitude toward winter. I still need to work on mine. Great attitude!

Grey skies here, snowing, 23F and the snow is nesting. SW PA.

What does "the snow is nesting" mean? (I don't live in snow country so I have no clue). Does it mean that it forms the nest-like blobs in trees that you photographed?

An invented concept by yours truly. Look at the first picture it is a humming bird's nest, now cradling snow.

Newsflash - lake effect snow advisory for central NY

7-Day Forecast for Latitude 43.04°N and Longitude 76.16°W

That definitely looks snowy!! :)

I looked up one of our four advisories, and it looks like temperatures are going to be in the teens and twenties here in New Orleans later this week. This is almost unheard of! Anyway, I am glad that I have cold weather gear (a nice warm hooded jacket and gloves, anyway) which I use when we visit Missouri sometimes.

I just went to the grocery store and although the sun was out, it was COLD...

Hate to tell you this, but you sound like my mother.;)
Guess that's a common mother thing. My mom is generally very thrifty, but she has one spendthrift indulgence: cranking up the heat in the winter. When we visit her for Christmas it's almost stifling.

You never know, I might BE your mother!! No, not really. But honestly I do sound like my own mother, who died two years ago last September. I don't grieve over her death any more because I see her when I look in the mirror, and I take comfort in her verbal expressions and gestures which I see in what I say and do.

I will be good and will let it get colder in here, once I am sure I am rid of this VILE, vile, vile chest cold. I think it has receded from chest to head in the past day or two, though I take nothing for granted. And upon typing that, I started to cough again... :(

Good grief! :nonono: Looks like something we would see in late spring here.

Soup in the crockpot is the best remedy for this kind of weather. :flowers:

28 degrees...tonight's low 'bout 16. thank goodness I have my own 'private summers'.

Frozen scorpions! Frigid fire ants! Chattering chiggers!

Already down to 21ºF at 9:30 PM with a forecast overnight low of 11º. The all time low for January 9 here is 12º, so we could make history in about 9 hours or so. We have a space heater strategically positioned that is providing surprisingly decent heat to half of the house (where we'll be sleeping and where the thermostat is) for probably about 15 cents an hour, so I think we can set the thermostat back to 60 tonight and prevent this 10 kilowatt electric resistance money-suck from turning on too much while we sleep. The faucets have started their overnight drip.
