    I don't know if you are in to it but cruises go out of Galveston. Not on your list but for beaches South Padre Island is amazing and the bay would be fun if you are bringing your sailboat.

    Retired 7 years, current age 57. We have 77% stocks and plan is for this to drift higher as we age. Despite our best efforts at blowing the dough our portfolio balance has increased 49.6% since we retired.

    Wellesley Fund

    I bought Wellesley last March for part of my 10-year spending ladder. CD's at the time were paying over 5%. Wellesley has paid over 8% the last 12 months. So far so good!

    We retired at age 50 so have been spending down after tax money and Roth contributions to take advantage of government healthcare. We also have a small pension and a 72t which takes care of the low tax brackets. At age 65 when everything kicks in almost all income will be taxable.

    I had some of the same issue date bonds. $11,208 was my payout also. This matched closely with what I calculated (using 6 months each of 7.12%, 9.62%, and 6.48%).

    We are working toward 100% Vanguard. Nice and simple. Sweep account is great at 5.3%. We have mostly stock index funds and brokerage CD’s so do not need anything fancy.

    4% is about the worst case scenario in history. Something higher is more likely (and expected). The caller had a lot of money so could be flexible when dealing with sequence of returns.

    Wouldn’t this approach be locking in one of FIRECalc’s worst case results? There has to be a better way to be conservative and also get some upside potential.

    All the accountants will squeal since you used an accounting term “Net Worth”. Just rephrase the question as how much is a pension worth and the answer is not zero.
