    Help with a new cat

When we adopted from the shelter about 6 years ago, our new cat had the same problem. Multiple trips to the vet, tested for parasites, antibiotics for infections, etc, with no success. Turns out she was intolerant to the corn, wheat and soy that is in many less expensive cat foods. We...

    Wealth Accumulation

DH and I were able to accumulate our nest egg by working in software and big data for a mega bank. My salary and both year end bonuses usually went into investments, and we lived off of his salary. But, we got such a good saving start early because we started with no student loans (thanks Mom...

    Seabourn vs Standard Cruise Experience

I am anxious to hear folks opinions too. We have cruised many times with the mass market lines, but recently decided to up our game and booked a Panama Canal with Viking Ocean. Viking sounds pretty laid back, no kids, no casinos, which is right up our alley.

Do you listen to younger people?

One of my favorite things about my neighborhood book club is that the women’s ages range from 35-75. It makes for great conversations and perspectives and I think everyone appreciates that.

    Does Anyone Proactively Replace Appliances/HVAC?

We always balance it with the level of inconvenience it will cause us when it breaks. For example… I live in NC, and it gets awfully hot here sometimes in the summer. We knew our HVAC was 20 years old, it had been needing off and on repairs and might have a slow leak of Freon. But it was...

What does Costco Have That I Can't Find Other Places?

Has anyone mentioned the Kirkland extra virgin olive oil? We love their Italian one, very tasty and a nice price too.

Is it weird not have a dishwasher, dryer or garbage disposal?

Perhaps not that big of a deal if you live alone? But, when both of us were working outside the home and we were raising our kids, I would have been very unhappy to have been lacking a dishwasher or a dryer. I see them as time saving devices.

    Aspartame Withdrawal?

I sympathize… I used to get about 5000 premature beats per day and was told something similar. “It won’t kill you, it’s not dangerous, stop worrying”, etc. “that’s only 5% of your heartbeats in a typical day, we usually don’t intervene until it’s 20%”. But… my EP listened when I explained all...

    Is "avoiding probate" a scam?

Exactly the same for us… we have two great kids, ages 20 and 22. Both are in university and on track to graduate and become productive adults. But they are not quite savvy enough to inherit the kinds of $$ that are in our estate. Our trust will dole out big chunks of $$ to them at ages 25...

    Sofa beds

We have a La-Z-Boy sofa, that has an inflatable air mattress built in, and it is quite comfortable. It takes a little longer to set up and close down, but it’s well worth it. If I recall, the air mattress feature added about $500 onto the price, but it’s been money well spent.

    March Madness

How about those Tar Heels? What a close and exciting game! I’m an alum and both my kids attend there now. They reported that it was utter madness, fun and crazy in town last night. Definitely more than the normal UNC-beats-Duke chaos.

    College Spending Money

I give my two current college kids $100 each per month. They have a full meal plan at the dining hall and dorm paid direct from their 529 accounts. The $100 is meant to cover the occasional trip to Target, their laundry fees, and eating out or a movie or something fun once a week. They live...

    Daily WORDLE - 2022

I’m happy to say I’ve done it 5, 4 and 3 rows these last 3 days. Fun game, I’m enjoying it. Now… when the day comes (and it surely will), when I don’t get it in 6 tries, will it tell me what it is? Or just leave me wondering…

    what is the pharmacy hinting?

My college aged daughter works part time in a pharmacy as a tech and she said she points out the price to the customer each time at checkout, just to make sure the price is what they were expecting. Sometimes the $$ is higher than a customer can afford, sometimes insurance has paid or not paid...

How much sleep do you get?

I feel best when I am consistently in the 8-8.5 range. Life doesn’t always allow for that, but I try for it.
