Well I was signed up for ER Class of 2014, but recent events will have me putting in my last work day on 04 Oct 13 and taking leave all the way up until I officially separate from my employer on 10 Feb 14. Does that count as ER Class of 2013? If so, sign me up, age 45.
Absolutely. Retirement means not working. If you can still manage to get paid, that's just gravy.
That's what DH says too. He stopped working in Dec 2012, but they keep sending him paychecks. Ask him if he retired in 2012 and he will assure you he did.
Also, I see lots of more retirees in Mar and April. Congrats everyone - feels great, doesn't it?!
I have been out about 3 weeks now. We are on the road (in our new fifth wheel) and it is wonderful - everything I hoped it would be. Not having the Sunday night blues (in fact not really ever knowing or caring what day of the week it is) is possibly the best feeling in the world.
I am now 75% certain I will retire 12/30/13 instead of June 2014 for several reasons. I won't be appreciatively richer by June and my bs bucket is starting to tip and drip. I'll have a decent pension with 2% COLA and paid medical and an emergency fund. I've been home I'll for two weeks and I saw how much I dread going back to w*rk tomorrow. By the end of 2013 I'll take home 70% of my salary forever. I won't be rich but I won't be poor and I'll enjoy my own free time.
Almost 3 months past the date when I reached retirement eligibility. I'm gettin' closer every day.... Now, it's not when I CAN, it's when I WANT to.
I'm in for the class of 2013.

Hang tight Ziggy. I'm sure it will work out. If you're going to go broke you'll have plenty of notice to make the necessary adjustments. I use $300 / month / person for spending cash but mine includes gasoline.
