These two quotes motivated me to retire early and continue to motivate me. I have a list that I am keeping of quotes like these that I review from time to time. I've seen the Mark Twain one many times but the one by Henry James really speaks to me. Do you have quotes that are meaningful to you?

Mark Twain:
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

Henry James:
"It’s time to start living the life you’ve imagined."

"Nobody cares what your life looks like more than you do, so make it happen"

Not sure if anyone else said it, but I do all the time.

Not sure who quoted it but I heard it first right here.

"When you are on your death bed I never heard anyone say I wish I had spent more time at the office"

Quotes are interesting and I use them myself from time to time but they don't motivate me to do much of anything, especially important decisions like retiring. Once I get the "buy low and sell high" quote in the right order, I may change my mind. :)

Don’t kick a fresh turd on a hot day.

I used to think I wanted a career. Now I realize I just wanted paychecks.

There is no dignity quite so impressive, and no independence quite so important, as living withing your means. Calvin Coolidge

People don't realize how hard other people have to work just to make me rich. Thurston Howell III

Niven's Laws:

Never throw **** at an armed man.
Never stand next to someone who is throwing **** at an armed man.

(Asterisks are automatic Bowdlerisms...I put in the original)

The longer you work, the more you can save.
The more you can save, the earlier you can retire.
Therefore-
The longer you work, the earlier you can retire!

Eff it I'm outa here!

I read this quote on this forum, and it stuck with me:
" If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together ..." great quote to use for someone newly married.

If someone's gonna throw rocks at you, make 'em get their own rocks.

I applied this frequently in staff / budget mtgs, etc.

Some of my favorites:

When it comes to something like value of stocks, bitcoin, tulips, art, etc
"It is not what's so, it is what people think is so".

Investing in general:
"You can make more money with your a$$, then you can with your brain".

General:
"For every beautiful women, there are at least two guys tired of her".

xrated fortune cookies:

"Don't give T-il, when He-d will do".

Office Space:

Bob - Looks like you have been missing a lot of work lately.

Peter - I wouldn't say I have been missing it. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Here's another of my favorites, I think from John Lennon:

"Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans".

It's so true. You work for years for MegaCorp, being the good doobie, making a family life, paying taxes, etc. and then you look up and you're > 50yo and you've done almost none of the things you had always dreamed of doing in life.

Now, you still have MegaCorp breathing down your neck, with a host of "mini-managers" running around with the sound of "..break out the cots!" echoing down the hallways.

F*** this sh**!!

I have always said," I work to live. I don't live to work" Not sure where I heard it first, but it has stuck with me for decades.

In a Seinfeld episode, "The Junior Mint," there is a funny exchange between Jerry and George when George learns he is owed some money after the state finds an account which he had forgotten about. Thanks to compound interest, it had grown a lot over time. George's opening line is quite telling.

George: "'Interest' - it's an amazing thing, you make money by doing nothing."

The rest of the exchange is pretty funny, too.

Jerry: "I have some friends who base their lives on that very principle."
George: "Really? Who?"
Jerry: "No one you know." [Jerry makes a funny face in George's direction.]
