Gave my notice today!

Thanks all. Very busy time of year at work...so, not much more happening as far as stress melting. Another couple of weeks and the melting should restart. :)

33 work days left!

Near the end of my stint I had a couple of stressful w*rk issues........and then I remembered my limited time. For some odd reason, the stress left. In the next couple of days you will likely come to that awareness. Enjoy your final countdown!

Congratulations! I was reading your early posts. It seems you are able to pull the plug 4 years before your original target retirement age. Just curious what helped you to move the date early?
Your original posts have few concerns. I'm wondering how are you address these concerns? The reason I'm asking is because I'm in very similar situation like you and have very similar concerns. I'm love to hear more about how you are able to achieve this. Thank you.

Great question! It's a combination of all of these things....

- My BS bucket at work filled up quickly & rather suddenly. New CEO and company is going thru the 3rd major reorg in the last 5 years.
- I reached my savings goal much earlier than expected. I had very conservative returns in my models and the actual results over the last 3 years were much better.
- Wife decided that she wanted to continue to work for a period of time...at least OMY.
- DD graduated and has her career started. She is planning to move out this summer and I've been gradually shifting her bills to her.
- DS is sophomore in college and we were able to shore up the 529 over the last 2 years to get him thru.
- Mortgage will be paid in Spring.

More than anything, I just decided that I'll never be 100% certain and worry-free...even if I continued to work another year or 2 or 3. So, I decided that the time was more important to me. You don't get that time back.

YMMV.

Definitely better to leave when *you* decide, not when the company decides. Speaking from experience.:(

Congrats!!! :)

Congratulations!!!! :) :) :)

The first thing I'll probably do is to brew a cup of hot coffee, get comfortable with a book and reflect on this amazing journey.

TY!

I was hoping for a package since I turned 55 last Spring. It never came and after checking with a few "insiders", it's not coming anytime soon.

Congrats, I’m a month in.... seriously time has slowed, as an example I WAS A FAST DRIVER IN MY CAR. Radar detector was my friend. I truly have slowed down, do I accelerate sometimes, yes .... this first month dragged in a great way. Enjoy your next stage....

Damn lol. Same here. I drive 90-100 Mph to work and that's why I have a beemer. Now working at home in the pandemic, I don't drive much, and don't have the need for speed.

Congrats! Savor the time you have left. I left so quickly I hardly had time to say goodbye. I think your way is probably better. YMMV

Makes me think back to the movie "About Schmidt"

Arguably the best "retirement movie." It takes you through all the potential emotions and many of the issues one faces in retirement. Definitely YMMV, however.

I love "Office Space" as the movie about why to FIRE. Again, YMMV.

Congrats! It's so nice to have that light at the end of the tunnel, but still nothing like actually bathing within it on a daily basis once the big day hits.

Congrats to you! Sounds like everything fell into place and you had the guts to make the right choice. I pulled the plug in Sept of 2019 at 58 and have loved every minute of it. No regrets and never looked back. Market has been a roller coaster but holding on has paid off handsomely. It's an incredible feeling when your money is working harder than you could. Maintaining 6-8 years of liquidity let's us sleep like a rock and still keep an aggressive 80%~ equity allocation for long term growth. I never adhered to the silly "if you've won the game stop playing". That equates capitalism and the markets to a Vegas casino. That is flawed. In a casino that makes sense...the longer you stay in the house the house will always win. The market is the opposite...the longer you stay in the house then you will win. In the end...asset allocation is all about whatever mix gives you that good night sleep. Individual decision and some folks get very squeamish with volatility.

Congratulations! You are almost there. I remember that meeting for me (27 months ago) was such a relief. It all got real. Enjoy!

:dance:I am always happy for those that are nearing retirement and seem to live vicariously through their journey. I have followed your thread and if my math is correct you only have about one week left. Is everything still on track? Would like to hear your thoughts as it is getting closer. Congratulations!

Yes. Everything is on track. The biggest hiccup has been covid. I came down with it on 2/1 and it has really knocked me for a loop. Felt like i was hit by a bus. 11 days now and I'm still not 100%.

Looking forward to a long weekend of getting my strength back and I'll be able to do a victory lap next week.

Oh no. It's a nasty disease. I hope you feel better soon.

I hope your retiree health insurance covers you in case Covid lingers. Maybe stay on until Covid passes? - just a thought, so YMMV.

Hate to hear that covid got you down. Good luck in your recovery. Hopefully you will feel better next week and can really enjoy your last week on the job. Congratulations again!

Wow, poor timing! I sure hope you are feeling better very soon! Maybe a retirement celebration can lift your spirits!

Congratulations! Hope you have recovered and enjoying retirement.
