What did you do today? 2018 version

Worked outside for an hour trimming bushes and killing weeds. Sprayed the foundation with bug kill stuff. In 102 F heat, one hour was enough to get me soaked to the skin. Went inside, took a shower and put on dry clothes.

Finished up my screen door install with a closer and quarter round moldings.

Continued cleaning and organizing the garage.

Heading out shortly to a retirement gathering downtown for a former co-worker.

Had lunch with former co-worker (age 61) who was let go earlier this month, just short of his 37th year with the company. I'd had lunch with him a month ago and we talked about the fact he had been financially able to retire for a couple of years but suffered from chronic OMY syndrome and could not pull the plug. Thoughtful of the company to cure him of that nasty affliction, plus give him a nice parting gift. :)

Big Lagoon?
I'm back in McKinleyville. Trying to do a bit of closure.

Yes, exactly. Here's the map of my trip (from the Anglr app. Most of the markers show bites):

I sent you a PM for getting together.

What did I do today? After eating lunch out with F, we went to Good Will. That's the short version; here's the long version:

Two months ago I bought a nice new 15 pound B&W Brother laser printer on sale for $49.99 instead of buying new cartridges for my 75+ pound fairly ancient color Brother laser printer.

What to do with the old printer? I could lift it but it was so heavy I couldn't walk with it safely. After two months of staring at it and wondering how I was going to move it and what on earth to do with it, finally several days ago I got F to carry it to my Venza for me. What a behemoth that old color laser printer was.

Anyway, today we drove it to Good Will where an employee carried it from my Venza so we didn't have to lift it again.

It's great to be rid of such an albatross and to have a new printer that I can lift if/when necessary as I grow older. That was pretty much the whole point of replacing it. I love no longer having to squeeze past an obstacle as big as The Rock of Gibraltar when going in or out of my side door, because it is GONE... :D

What I planned to do today: stay at home, organize the linen closet, maybe some yoga, generally just recover from six days straight on the river in the rain.

What I did today: emptied the linen closet in preparation of organization. Then the sun came out, and the trail called. I caught the afternoon bike shuttle and spent a couple of hours riding in the Lehigh Gorge and enjoying the scenery. Maybe I’ll get in at least a short yoga session before bed. The closet can wait until tomorrow.

Today is Buddha lent day, went to the village temple to pray to Buddha, sat cross legged on the cement floor for 3 hours, my legs and back were cramping up and muscle spasms in the buttocks

A couple of weeks ago I put out in the trash one cruddy rusty metal shelf from my basement that I could carry. There were 8 bigger ones still in the basement. A scrapper truck came by while I happened to be near the window. I asked the guys if they wanted the other ones in the basement. They did, and hauled them all out. Like magic! I understand your feeling of triumph.

Can relate to the too heavy or unwieldy problem. Everything I consider bringing in to the house at this point has to pass that test.

DW and I went to a concert last night, the first in a long while -- the Eagles and James Taylor at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. Awesome show, beautiful summer night. Made us very nostalgic for the days of our youth ... we had each (separately) seen J.T. on the same college tour in the fall of '71, and the Eagles (together) early in our relationship.

Knowing that 47 years had passed since that college concert made me feel old, but I was in good company last night!

Went to the gym yesterday for my elipictal day, as soon as I got back home DW wanted to go for a walk.

We went to a casino down the road last night. Stayed overnight for our anniversary and brought our two little dogs. They love to travel and are generally very well mannered.

We were only gone for a little while when I'm paged on the casino floor. Security says the dogs are going batty. Sure enough the one was upset and making a fuss. I walked her a long time. Came back and she was still wired. We went jogging then, I didn't stop until she flopped down. I've never seen her that wound up.

We finally got to dinner and gambled a little. After all was done we'd lost $17 out of the $500 we took. I'm exhausted today, it's a gym day for both of us but we agreed to take off.

Curious to know if that casino was smoky? We've almost given up on the Native American casinos out west for that reason.
Unfortunately they allow smoking. It wasn't too bad early, by night time it was bothering me. Walking out this morning was like walking through an ashtray. I'm an ex-smoker and it really bothers me, my sinuses are a mess.

I was afraid that might be the case. Guess we will limit our use of their services to their RV park.

That is really smart and I'm starting to feel that way, too, so I think I'll follow your lead on this. When I bought the old (heavy) printer, years ago, its weight was not as much of a problem for me because I was younger. But now, I will need to start thinking of how heavy or unwieldy items are before buying them (as well as figuring out where they go in advance).

How terrific that the scrapper guys hauled all those shelves up from the basement!

OMG, was that a dream concert or what!!! Either the Eagles or James Taylor would be amazing, but both in one concert? WOW, they are some of my favorites, I admit.

OK, in the interests of "Blow that Dough" I just ordered 6 new shell tops (ladies' t-shirts) in various shades of girly pink, Aggie maroon, and bright cardinal red from Landsend which with tax came to $102.92 .

I don't actually NEED them since I have plenty of retiree-casual clothing. But I thought it would be fun to have something new and different to wear in bright, fun colors and these are the type of top that I like best for every day now that I am retired.

So far in retirement I have been averaging less than $30/month on clothing (including shoes), so I am thinking that is a category I can expand on without feeling uneasy about it.

OMG! You realize if you do this another hundred times your withdrawal rate may zoom up to a full 1.0% ? Be careful or your nursing home will have to cut back on how much caviar they serve you.

:ROFLMAO: Well this was what I was thinking, too. I need to figure out what I can spend a bit more money on, sensibly and in a way that will add to life's fun.

I have a bunch of perfectly good, but old and tired looking polo shirts from when I was working. They still have some wear in them but they do not make me feel happy because they remind me of work too much. So I am going to take them to Goodwill and wear my new, pretty, and bright t-shirts instead.

Took my grandson and his parents to Shedd Aquarium yesterday and had a great time. It was the best day ever for me. When my children were young we visited my folks in Chicago, every trip we went to the Chicago museums and aquarium. It’s some of the best childhood memories they have and I’ve been waiting for a chance to start that with the next generation. Hopefully the first of many.

Oh what fun!!!! I am SO HAPPY that kids are still building great memories of those amazing Chicago museums and aquarium. I will never, ever forget the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, which in no small part inspired my career in science/engineering.

The "wife to be" insisted that I look good for our wedding so we went to Nordstrom. One suit, 2 shirts, 1 slacks, 1 tie, a scarf and a pair of shoes...

2 grand.

Yesterday, we returned from our annual two week vacation in Maine. While we were gone, we had the exterior of the house painted and the downstairs hardwood floors refinished. That had necessitated removing the contents of entire first floor of the house either to the second floor or out to the garage. So as soon as we got home from our 6 hour drive from Maine, I put in another 6 hours lifting and toting furniture down the stairs to start returning the house to normal. Today, I got up early, vacuumed and washed every screen in the house and reinstalled them all (had to remove them all for the exterior painting). It seemed logical to follow that by washing all the windows, inside and out. I only accomplished the downstairs. Then we went to our community garden plot, which has run riot in the last two weeks. We weeded and harvested for about 4 hours. Washed up, out to dinner and now back home. I am so very tired and sore.

My god! I can’t do that much housework in a month!

Now THAT’s Blowing That Dough! I need to follow your example. :D

Opened the cabinet and had a glass peanut butter jar leap to its death on the tile floor. Spent a while picking up glass.
