What is your pet peeve of the day?

Thanks. I'm glad someone is paying attention. The most recent thread that I think may have disappeared has to do with a person's first/earliest childhood memory. Maybe it's still around, but I couldn't find it. It was a relatively new thread; might have been started about two weeks ago.

note to add: of course I could just be experiencing an on-going senior moment.

Gee, I liked that thread, it brought me to a point in time when I was with my entire immediate family. Now sadly my father and one of my sisters are gone from that scene.

I'll bet if someone (a regular member) started a new similar thread, it would stay around. It wasn't a bad idea; it was just unfortunate that it was begun by a troll.

My pet peeve is the guy in the office 2 cubicles away who makes that hock a loogie sound about every 45 seconds. It turns my stomach and makes me nauseous. I even offered him an antihistamine and some kleenex one day. He said, "I don't have a cold."

I've been telecommuting a lot since then. :D

:LOL::LOL:, Yeah gross.

I think I used to work with that same guy!

When Netflix downloads to 99%, pauses for what seems like an eternity and then pops up a message that the video I want to watch is current unavailable. Oh realllly.

Another pet peeve- crowded gas station, nearly every bay full, trying to find a spot I can use knowing that I have to have the passenger side facing the pump. There are always 2 or 3 bays taken up by parked cars with no passengers- driver filled the tank and was too lazy to move the car while he/she went into the store for pork rinds and a cold brewski (boggles my mind that you can buy liquor at convenience stores in my state).

Without going into details, trying to get the hospital to refund monies you paid to them and were overcharged.

(hospital: no problem Sir, we will reverse the charge on your credit card (NOT!!)).

What is the problem with them issuing you a credit on your credit card? Assuming that you paid the bill that included the overcharge with a credit card, that would be a typical practice.

If you paid them by cash or check, then agree it is strange that they would offer a credit card credit as a remedy.

Not sure if the OP had the same problem as me, but they just do not want to do it.... not a problem with a credit back on the CC....

It took them 9 months to get me my over payment back to me...

LOL! My first thought was "and we let such people vote" and then I opened the link and saw the story was from China... whew! What a relief!

Spending the week in Malta. Pet peeve of the day and one for all time is litter and people not picking up after themselves. Have been to a couple of the beaches here which are like the world's largest ashtrays. I know it's Europe and all but come on. Also the quaint fishing village we are staying in has a beautiful harbour that is teeming with aquatic life but also with floating refuse - mainly plastic water and other beverage bottles. A great shame.

Paid with a CC, they said they will credit back, but somehow they JUST DIDN'T DO IT! And if you wait more than 60 days, then you are out of luck getting the CC company to handle the dispute.

Maybe you have better luck than most folks who try to get medical facilities to return the overcharge be we certainly don't.

I visited Malta in 2016. I didn't see as much litter as you are seeing, but it was untidy. :(

This year I visited Croatia. Crystal clear waters. Much cleaner. They take their tourist industry very seriously.

Yes very 'untidy'. Some seem to have a mentality that the sea or the desert or the forest can absorb the waste. Up to 150 years ago this may have been true but with dramatically increasing population densities and now so many essentially non-biodegradable plastics in use things are getting ugly pretty fast in many places. I was somewhat surprised to find such conditions in an EU country what with the leadership role that the EU has in environmental issues.

Which brings to mind one of my peeves: "No Dumping Allowed" signs. Do we really need to be told not to dump our stuff in random places?

That was a rhetorical question...

Visited Fez, Morocco a couple years ago and was surprised at the amount of trash in the smaller towns on the train route.

Watching English subtitled foreign movies or TV series via Amazon Prime and the subtitles do not appear long enough on the screen to read in its entirety. Recently started watching "Trapped", a "who done it" mystery with a lot of underlying sub-plots. For me, at least, it requires a lot of concentration to observe any given scene's actions. but before I know it, the subtitle is gone. I guess that is why Roku has an instant replay button.

I would disagree. I'm happy to see threads like that disappear.
redduck note: this quote is regarding the early childhood memory thread

I am not understanding when you say, "threads like that..." What sort of thread do you see it being? And, why would you like it to disappear? (Although, the second question may have an obvious answer imbedded in the first answer).

Sorry, it was clear to me that I meant those started by bots, trolls, or spammers.
