I received this from an Irish friend here in Boston, he celebrates today in a BIG way.

TOP OF THE MORNING TO ALL YOU QUASI IRISHMEN (and women) OUT THERE.

A simple Toast to All My Family and Friends ...

Here's to you and here's to me

I pray that friends we'll always be,

But if by chance we disagree,

The heck with you and here's to me!

What It Means To Be Irish

1) You will never play professional basketball.

2) You swear very well.

3) At least one of your cousins is a fireman, cop, bar owner, funeral home owner or holds political office.

4) You think you sing very well.

5) You have no idea how to make a long story short!

6) There isn't a big difference between you losing your temper or killing someone...

7) Much of your childhood meals were boiled.

8 ) You have never hit your head on a ceiling.

9) You spent a good portion of your childhood kneeling in prayer (ya know ya were thinkin' about bein' bad whether ya did it or not).

10) You're strangely poetic after a few beers.

11) You are, therefore, poetic a lot.

12) You will be punched for no good reason...a lot.

13) Some punches directed at you are from legacies of past generations.

14) Many of your sisters and/or cousins are named Mary, Catherine or Eileen... and there is at least one member of your family with the full name of Mary Catherine Eileen.

15) Someone in your family is incredibly cheap. It is more then likely you.

16) You may not know the words, but that doesn't stop you from singing.

17) You can't wait for the other guy to stop talking before you start talking.

18) You're not nearly as funny as you think you are...but what you lack in talent, you make up for in frequency.

19) There wasn't a huge difference between your last Wake and your last keg party.

20) You are, or know someone, named Murph.

21) If you don't know Murph then you know Mac. If you don't know Murph or Mac then you know Sully. Then you probably know Sully McMurphy.

22) You are genetically incapable of keeping a secret.

23) You have Irish Alzheimer's... your forget everything but the grudges!

24) "Irish Stew" is a euphemism for "boiled leftovers."

25) All of your losses are alcohol related (loss of virginity, loss of drivers license, loss of money, loss of job, loss of significant other, loss of teeth from punch...) but it never stops you from drinking

I'm not Irish, but I like to celebrate St. Patrick's Day by eating corned beef & cabbage, Irish soda bread (home-baked), and preparing a yummy "green" dessert like mint-flavored chocolate cake with pale green "creme de menthe" frosting. And, of course, I always make sure to wear something green.

The man who repaired my chimney a couple of months ago was born in Ireland and spoke with a nice Irish brogue. Happy St. Paddy's Day to all!

My family is a Scottish clan (and also have a bit of Irish, Welsh, German ...), and we attended a Celtic festival last weekend ... had a bit of haggis.

And, I resemble those remarks ...

Happy St. Pat's to all!

Ah, but did anyone else corn their own beef for the occasion? :)

Nope. Ran out of Saltpetre!!!

But will enjoy the stores version with cabbage, carrots, onions and redskin with a bit of colemans mustard on the side. We pass on the soda bread but have some great rye waiting for leftover sandwiches.

Come Monday I start haunting the grocery store for marked down briskits to store in the deep freeze. ;)

My Polish MIL makes me corned beef and cabbage every year and it's the best!

I had a bad habit concerning St Pat's day I needed to break and have finally succeeded......... explaining to no-clue folks that a shamrock and a four leaf clover are not the same thing. Had to fathom how or why folks use the four leaf clover as a St Pat's day decoration. But, rather than spend the day pointing that out, I've finally learned to ignore it.

Lots and lots of Irish music groups in town (Chicago) this year. Gaelic Storm, Altan, Cherish the Ladies, Dave Munnelly Band, Battlefield Band, Irish Rovers, and on and on. St Pat's day is not celebrated as heartily in Ireland as it is here and so the groups are over here booking concerts.

Lotsa fun!

I am part Irish with an Irish surname. Ironically, I am also allergic to alcohol, I break out in hives.

Well, there were ONLY 650,000 people at the parade in Dublin today. Sure, attendance in NYC was 2 million. But per capita.......

:D (virtual hic)

La fheile Padraig shona dhibh go leir!
(Happy St. Paddy's Day to everyone!)
