Not the E-Mail kind, the stuff in a can.
Something Posing As Meat as a former co-worker called it.
It seems to me that its an extreme food... people either love it or hate it. I'm from the 1st group, always have a few cans around. If you don't find a can under the seat of my truck, I got hungry. Straight out the can, with a slice of cheese is fine, But love sliced thin and fried up crisp like bacon. I actually found a recipe to make and can our own, less salt and try some custom flavors.

I love spam too. One of our local restaurants in Vermont has fried spam and eggs on their breakfast menu. Ummm

We keep a couple of cases on hand although we're not die-hards in that it must be fried/flame grilled/browned and not raw out of the can.

Our favorite recipe is SPAM hashbrowns with eggs. Cube the SPAM up small and fry it along with onion and bell pepper in a #12 cast iron skillet. Remove and set aside while browning one side of the hashbrowns with some mesquite seasoning. After flipping the hashbrowns add the SPAM & veg back to the skillet. When the potatoes are about done dig 4 small wells into the potatoes with the spatula and crack eggs into the wells and cover. Remove and serve when the eggs are done to your liking.

Too salty for me.

Don't eat it any more but used to when young. I remember going on camping trips with my buddies in our 20's or as I like to call them drinking trips with a tent set up in the background.

We'd throw that on a grill over the open campfire. The stuff was indestructible. Didn't matter if it fell in the open fire. Just pick it up, dust off the ashes and away you go. Tasted great. Course it could have been the 10-12 beers we already consumed.

I bought a package of small cans of SPAM spread when shortages were getting bad at the grocery store. I just opened the first can last week and was surprised at how tasty it was. Yes, too salty, but it made a good lunch sandwich.

I can't remember the last time I had any SPAM, but it hasn't been long enough.

I'm in! I eat a can every month or two.

Sliced and cooked on a griddle makes crunchy edges, which I like. Lately have been eating it out of the can, because I'm lazy.

The low sodium version is my preference, but "low" is relative....

Tried a few different flavors as well as the MegaMart generic. The original is the best.

Always have a few cans of the "original" SPAM on hand. Wife hates it. I LOUVE IT! Even do the Monty Python SPAM chant when preparing. Like previous replies I like to cube it first then fry with onions and jalepeno for an omellette with cheese. I also fry a couple thick slices and slap on a bulky roll with cheese. Thanks to the original poster who has decided my lunch today. :)

I had to eat this so much as a kid that I avoid it now. But if the zombie apocalypse occurs, and this is my only choice for sustenance, then I will return to it :).

Sometimes we would take it when on a multi day camping trip and I supposed I would take some on a sailboat ocean crossing, but other than that I don't seek it out. Bacon is just better.

I'm surprised Koolau hasn't posted here yet! Oh, yeah- it's VERY early in Hawaii.

It's VERY popular in Hawaii- not sure why. I was on small-ship cruise there and one of the passengers bought Spam-flavored macadamia nuts. Spam with rice and scrambled eggs on the side was one of the breakfast offerings one morning. Few partook of it. I had a veggie omelet.

When I was a kid Mom served it broiled with pineapple and I liked it, but now due to the salt and fat content and my general avoidance of meat, I haven't had it in decades.

I think it became popular because it didn't have to be refrigerated so before refrigeration was prevalent it traveled well from the mainland to the islands.

I prefer the regular, but I use a lot of salt in my food but despite my high use of salt my blod pressure is spot on. It drives a good friend who needs to take high blod pressure medications and avoid salt crazy.

This thread is inspiring me to make my own corned beef hash for breakfast! Definitely not with SPAM though.

We always make some if we have left over corn beef, But I may need to look at making a batch and canning our own.

I plan to make corned beef and then pastrami sometime this year. Pastrami would make a good hash as well I imagine.

DH doesn’t care for store bought corned beef, but I’m going to try to make it at home and hope he likes mine. He usually likes my experiments.

I never hated Spam but probably only ate it once every year or two... Until going to Hawaii for the first time in 2021. We've been to Hawaii several times since and have enjoyed many different versions of Spam musubi. Now I make my own and it's my go-to work lunch.

In fact I'm making a batch now. 1 cup of rice, 1 can of spam, 3 sheets of nori, some furikake and sauce makes 6 delicious musubi.

Love musubi the we travel to Hawaiii!

We will purchase/eat SPAM occasionally at home, usually the original one. Have tried the teriyaki one, didn't like it.
Fried crisp is the best way to eat it, in my opinion.
