What language do you speak?

Lazy, illiterate Merkin here...
I have been described, though, as a cunning linguist!!
Unless you get your teeth tangled in someone's merkin...

German: Learned it in grad. school and use it some professionally. I read it better than I speak it, but I can get along.

Spanish: A little...enough to get along in casual conversation if forced to.

Swedish: Swedish-speaking grandparents. I am particularly fluent in peasant crudities, thanks to farfar.

English: Worser all the time.

English: Mother Tongue

French: Good conversational and business, plenty good enough to get by.

Spanish: Basic, but enough for "tourist" use

Latin: 5 years worth at school, not much call for it in real life, save for the serious legal letter now and then

Chinese (Cantonese dialect): very basic conversation, but improving!

I am trying Spanish again. I did 2 yrs in high school and once spoke it after a night of tequila in Mexico.

I have heard that 's one of the most difficult languages to learn.

Tell me about it. I'm trying to teach my husband Croatian and it's pretty frustrating since he can't roll his "r's". :(

I speak English pretty well. Some may disagree.

I speak Spanish not as well. I've traveled extensively in Mexico, Peru, Chile, Boliva and Spain. I can get around, but am not able to carry on a social discusussion very well.

I did post-Doc work in Italy over 20 years ago and believe I could speak Italian again if I worked at it.

I tried to learn French several years ago, but really never got past a few phrases.

I am working on German now -- very rudimentary level.
