Still on track for June 1st however.....
I'm in the auto mfg. business. The reaction to the "plague" is going to severely curtail business into the 3rd quarter at least. A supply issue will creep into our business most likely starting around mid April. We will struggle to produce vehicles. That will be ok because around mid May folks will decide (if they haven't already) that maybe we shouldn't be doing any big ticket purchases until this blows over. Demand will DROP! This is definitely a Black Swan for the car business.
I have decided to hold off submitting formal retirement paperwork until mid May in hopes that a better offer (buyout) might happen. I suspect a temporary work force reduction. They may want to get rid of us expensive older guys.
Once I leave in June I will be taking hopefully about $350K 401k (was almost $400K:( ) to reinvest into a IRA that I have. Seems like a great time to invest. That along with pension has left us prepared.

I was outta there on 2/28/20. What a relief! I fulfilled my commitment to USG customer, and received thanks.

Each dept. involved in the separation had a different date. Not one responsible minicorp employee contacted me to confirm at the beginning. The actual date (2-28-20) went from my initial email into some robot system. I completed 3 or 4 tasks, and thought it was a slam dunk.

HR and IT had 2-14, so my access to everything was turned off on 2-15. That was a cluster to get turned back on. Later, my supervisor admitted he gave HR the wrong date.

Captain Kangaroo (Security) sent me wrong form 3x's. It contained another employees sensitive information. Sammy Davis Jr (Security) had a chuckle in elevator and asked me why I was still there, as HR thought I should be gone Jan. 31.

I no longer travel with that circus!

Why, oh why couldn't I have been eligible to retire before March 1. I almost made it.... Job is miserable but at least I never have to deal with this again.

I feel strangely calm these days. I must be delirious.
 
On my way home from work and thinking that we'll always remember this year, not just for our retirements... but also for the Coronavirus pandemic, stock market crash of 30+%, and a viscious global recession.

2020 will be memorable in more ways than one!

I have that one step left. The person I am turning things over to is back now from maternity leave so I get to have “those” conversations with clients. Should be interesting.

I've been making those calls for the last two weeks. It's been interesting.
 
Still firm on my date at the moment. Not sure how much my portfolio has dipped, but I suspect a quite a lot (it has taken all my willpower not to check). But, even if it dropped 30% from the high, I still have plenty, and would not need to change my lifestyle, so damn the torpedoes!
 
We are on track for November. No plans for withdrawals from 401k for at least 6 years.

Curious about this. Latest news seems that pretty much all cruising has been cancelled/postponed. Did yours, and if so, how did they handle it?

Can’t wait for tomorrow [emoji3]. Today there’s a gathering of colleagues to wish us (wife also retiring from same Mega on same day) a happy retirement.

We were able to cancel our b2b2b celebrity cruises for full “refund”...about 75% is future cruise credit. Don’t have a problem with that. We like cruising and have 10 booked (small deposits paid) for 2021/22 [emoji57] all on celebrity. I don’t see the cruise industry (at least not RCL) going to the wall before we can use the credits. It was very easy to cancel.

Got full refunds for the flights to/from Oz and also a summer trip to UK that we used miles for. All were with Delta. This was easy to cancel too.

Having trouble with the hotel in Sydney that I booked, and paid In full, via Delta last April. It was non-refundable but the hotel has since said they will refund. However, I cannot get hold of anyone at delta to talk to about this. The number says “technical difficulties”.
I’ve learned my lesson with this one...I won’t use an airline to book a hotel again 🤦

Enjoying retirement so far.

Probably not the best first week of retirement anyone has had...

Coronavirus becomes a big deal in US...
stock market drops quite a bit...
looks like recession is here for a while...
kids are coming back from college [emoji6]...
6 week retirement vacation cancelled...

But, I’m sitting having espresso followed by tea chatting with DW on Monday morning when I could have been in work...retirement is great [emoji3]
