Class of 2020

It is awesome to hear all of the positive posts here despite the market situation so far this year! Planning and re-planning provides comfort, and it makes me that much more diligent in my planning so I can hopefully have the same confidence level. Congratulations!
 
I retired last month and as others here I over-saved and calculated and recalculated and ultimately positioned myself that if some black swan event occurred I could still be quite comfortable without having to touch my stock portfolio for the next five years to seven years.

One thing I’ve tried to teach myself is to not only have a plan but to trust in your plan. I’m still years away from retirement but I hope when it comes time for me to retire I will be comforted in knowing that I have a plan in place for the next stage of my life.

Congrats to everyone in the Class of 2020! It seems like all of you are trusting your owns plans and are not being deterred by the recent market correction.
 
Handing in my laptop, cc, and badge tomorrow (Friday) at 11am. Then I’m done [emoji3]

Current market swings are irrelevant to our plan. We have 5 years of overfunded expenses in MM accounts. ACA starts on 4/1....that ‘gap’ in coverage is a bit weird but COBRA fills in if needed I’m told.

The thing that makes me nervous is our OZ and NZ cruises that start in a week or so. No opportunity for refunds at this stage.

Can’t wait for tomorrow [emoji3]. Today there’s a gathering of colleagues to wish us (wife also retiring from same Mega on same day) a happy retirement.

Thank you! Yes, it really is great. We have worked at the same companies since we graduated from the same college!?!?! (One of them was our own ‘company’ though [emoji57]).

Thank you! Can’t describe how happy my wife and I are (she also retired today).

We both loved the company and work we did and all the people there but now we get a whole bunch of time back to do with what we want.

It’s breathtaking really.

Awesome- congratulations to you. Keep us updated on how wonderful it is. I am slogging through the last tasks and need the encouragement.
 
Next week I head off to Norway for ten days. When I get back it I will be on my final countdown.

What should of been a great day was ruined. On Friday morning they disabled my badge, disabled my wireless access and HR never called me for my exit interview. Normally it's done by lunch then are free to leave, but for me I had to work all day and just left laptop and badge on my desk. Coworkers are just baffled by how they treated me after 19 years and 11 months.
 
Nobody, What a thoughtless and unkind sendoff! But now you are free, a weekend spreads deliciously in front of you - and on Monday the weekend starts again. Free, free, free!

I retired in 2019. My current director was happy to see me go and was getting twisted that the company president was taking so long to say how much I had done for the company. Just take it as a sign that you made the right choice.

Wow, if they disabled my badge & wireless access first thing, I'd take that as a sign and hit the door running, out by 9:00. :D
 
Another small milestone reached - today is the first workday where my countdown calendar reads under 200 days... :)
 
Still planning retirement in late May. Added to Roth a few days ago. Reduced non-ira equity $ in case we buy a more expensive house.

Reduced AA 48/52 down to 36/64. After today's carnage not sure of AA....not going to look at my equities for awhile :(

Announcement went out at work on
Friday afternoon. instead of the usual boilerplate: 'So and So has left the company to pursue other interests", my boss wrote a really nice synopsis of my 24years of contributions, and alluded to me leaving to "follow my passions". The tidal wave of personal emails from colleagues around the world had me feeling more emotional than I thought I'd feel... Until I sat in my next Megacorp meeting. 8.5 days left in the office... April 3rd will be here soon.
 
With 6 months to go, I just discovered this forum.

I plan to shut down the work computer and exit my cubicle for the last time on Sept 25th...
