U2F Security Key and Vanguard

Is there any reason to use one of these with Vanguard? If you don't have your key they will SMS you a code which defeats the purpose of using the key. Vanguard made me re-register my key and sign a bunch of legalese about indemnification and holding harmless. I don't think Vanguard supports app based 2 factor. I know that this has been discussed but I am not sure if anything has changed.

I would much rather have app based 2FA, but if Vanguard supports that, it is very well hidden.

It don't think that the U2F Key is gaining me any security so I am planning to revert to sms keeping the U2F around in case I lose phone access somehow.
