Put in my last day at the office today. I had lots of finishing up and administrative stuff to do, so I was the last one out of the office in the evening except for the security guard. Today was the first day of Ramadhan so everyone else hightailed it home to eat and drink. I dropped off my badge on my admin's desk on the way out and had the guard swipe the door open to set me free!

The list needs to have me taken off. Several replies back I said I was changing to part-time, so I can't claim June 1st as a complete retirement date. I crossed myself off, but the list still has me on it. I am happy with the choice I made, i call it part-time ER as opposed to part-time OMY. I am just delaying complete retirement for 1-1.5 years.

October 31st is now my target. Financial goals have been met. I now just have to advise employer and start the phase out. The fall is such a great time to travel. I look forward to hitting the open road all the way through Christmas and New Years. After, January 1st I will start planning my new routine which will include part time financial consulting,volunteering, a fitness routine some courses at the local community college and more travel with DW.

I know the feeling. 9 days left. There is a three day weekend in that 9 days too. All w*rk has been passed off, so it's just coasting and saying goodbyes from here on out.
My official last day is Thursday but I turn in my car, computer and credit cards tomorrow. I had my office phone disconnected today also. As far as I'm concerned, I am done with the exception of the final paperwork on what to do with the 401K, life insurance, etc. Freedom is close!

I'm five months into ER, and can tell you it is great!
and that is even with a few unexpected, but not unanticipated in terms of contingency planning, expenses (vet bills, dental bill, home repairs after tree incident not entirely covered by insurance)

After fourteen years with my employer, last week I was let go unexpectedly.
I've been busy with all the transition errands (new health insurance, unemployment paperwork, talking with family, rolling over 401k, etc).
But as of today, I'm officially retired. Age 47.
While my general mood is positive, there have been waves of grief (I got "dumped" from a job I loved), ecstasy (OMG I'm officially retired!), and anxiety (OMG I'm officially retired!).
I feel financially prepared for this (been FIRE planning for 17 years). But no retirement blog, book, or counselor could have prepared me for how I feel.
I hope to post more later. Let the games begin.

I wish more 20 and 30 somethings understood the realities of the workforce. Most won't be ready for the downsizing of the 40 and 50 somethings; it's only a matter time...
