Got my rejection letter too. I don't even apply for the practice rounds anymore. Been to a few of those. Only applying for a Thurs-Sunday round. Greatly reduces my odds but that's ok.

Btwn the two, I’d play BD first for two reasons: (1) overall better experience IMO, (2) multiple courses. Plus, you can drive to BD from Boise.

Could probably add a 3rd, $$$. PB makes it difficult to play there without also staying at their lodging. If you compare the lodging/golf packages at the two BD is about 1/3 the cost.
Going to Sentry Tournament of Champions
Hello all! I just retired in Sept 2017.
I started golfing with hubby about 5 years ago and fell in love with it.
I'm a Golf Channel addict now (never in my wildest dreams!).
My bucket list is to attend a pro tournament, however, I cannot stand large crowds. My ex boss lives on Oahu and regularly attends this tournament in Maui the first week of Jan.
You can see on TV and he also says, that the crowds are MUCH less than at other events, so I think I could handle it.
annnnnnddddd now... we have flight and condo reservations for 2019!!
I'm so excited! We are going to fly into Oahu then straight over to Maui for the week, then back to Oahu for 3 weeks.
Ex boss has a standing condo rental in Maui (very good price) near the course.
So question to anyone that has attended this event, do you have some words of wisdom, recommendations, thing to take/not take etc.. to get the most out of this experience? I really want to get some autographs (yeah.. cheesy I know, but what the heck).

I live on Maui and have volunteered w Shotlink at the event several times.
Your boss is correct, crowds are small, as is the field (30 or so of prior year tournament winners). Fun, relaxed atmosphere.
For autographs, either attend pro-am day (Wednesday), or try to catch players after they sign their scorecards after the round at the scoring trailer.
Bring good walking shoes, and be in shape if you're going to walk the course, as it's very hilly.

+1 Not an easy walk but worth it, there are a lot of holes where they use shuttles to move the players/caddies around because of the long hilly walks. Most of the crowds seem to stay around the holes near the clubhouse so if you venture out there will be hardly anyone there.

been hitting the ball really well lately and short game has come around
had our big member/guest tournament and I got performance anxiety so bad I could barely hit the ball, all I could do was putt and chip

well I quit drinking about 16 months ago - don't some people take beta blockers for this?
last year I had a bit of a tournament swing but not a full meltdown like I did this year - makes 3 days of golf pretty miserable
if I would have played half as good as I'm capable we would have won our flight easily, pretty depressing

Yes. There are also natural remedies: breathing, meditation, essential oils, teas, etc.

I remember reading an article many years ago that claimed quite a few PGA Tour players were taking beta blockers to calm the nerves and help their performance but they are now being drug tested and I would assume beta blockers are on the banned list.

What do you all do with all the extra balls you accumulate over the years? I've cleaned out my bag several times and put the balls I no longer want to use in a bag that has now become full. I keep a few in my bag for long shots over water and what not, but I generally don't lose too many balls any more. Most of these balls have a scuff mark or were found on the course.
Thinking the best thing to do is hit them at the driving range, but I'm pretty sure the range would not appreciate my gift of used balls. Throw them away?

Our winter home is on a golf course in Arizona, and the golfers "gift" us with a ball a day or so, sometimes in the pool or hot tub (thankfully no broken windows yet). We bought a couple of large glass vessels that flank the back door on the inside, and we're gradually filling them. We especially appreciate the brightly colored balls, as they add variety to our decor.

Well...I started with 2 & still have 2, and I don’t think I’ll ever throw them away.
If, on the other hand, you mean ‘golf’ balls, I have a shag bag I use to practice short game @ my local course practice area. When the shag bag is too full, I use them on the driving range.
Hmmmm...”shag bag” just made me think
...I guess that’s a whole ‘nother conversation.

I [-]lose more balls[/-] don’t accumulate like you do. And I don’t keep balls I find while playing, I usually throw them on the fairway for someone else to “find.”
But I don’t see anything wrong with leaving them on your local driving range. The local range I use has all brands and models of balls, I assume from deposits by players.
And I usually keep a few in my bag to warm up with on courses that don’t have a range. I’ll take 2 or 3 to the 10th tee, or somewhere I can hit without disturbing anyone, and hit them - with no intention of retrieving them. It’s probably just mental, but I don’t like my first contact with a ball to be the first shot on my scorecard, hitting a few first helps me.

Donate your extra golf balls to "First Tee" program which teaches kids about the game of golf! Most courses have a receptacle for "First Tee".
