Old Cars - What Your Mileage?

Now you are talkin' my language!

Just traded in my 2000 Volvo S40, 16 years old, 79,000 miles!

Had a close commute when working, mostly used DW's car for longer trips.

For the replacement, I wanted all the new safety features, but that usually meant top-of-the-line trim, and far more $ than I wanted to spend. Hard to justify when I drive so few miles. Though the new car will be the main one now, so a few more annual miles expected. And there aren't that many new cars for my remaining time on this earth!

I thought about getting a WRX instead of the Impreza, but why? Did I hope to break the land speed record in the 1.5 miles to work, with 5 traffic signals along the way?

I did install a WRX sway bar on Suby, though. Makes a big difference in the handling, much more fun in the corners.

I might get a different vehicle next year, mainly because the people riding in it tend to be older now, like my 87-year-old mom, and the Impreza is a little hard to haul old bodies out of.

Recently bought DW a new 2016 Explorer, so gave my old 1997 Expedition with 185K to my sister. All original drivetrain and suspension. Used about 1 qt oil in 2500 miles. I had owned it 18 years.
DW's old driver is a 2008 Ford Edge that has 142K, and is my new bad weather driver.
My normal driver is kind of a beater 2004 Ford Ranger that has 151K. Runs great, looks a little rough.
My 1988 F-250 4x4 diesel has 133K.

All of my old hot rods have ?? miles, but they all mostly have rebuilt and swapped engines, transmissions and suspensions.

2001 Honda Odyssey, 188,000. (4th transmission).
2002 Toyota Camry, 123,000.

2002 Toyota Camary 159,000. Replaced water pump 4 years ago.
2009 Honda Odyssey 90,000 miles. Just replaced timing belt.
No other issues with either one.

2003 GMC 4WD pickup, just getting broken in at 94k miles.
2013 Honda Accord, 49k miles. That's the one we use the most.

2006 Chevy Equinox 222,000 miles. Still running strong but may park it for a while - a 2013 Chevy Silverado, 49,000 miles came with the farm.

heh heh heh - I like pickups. although I did give away a 1994 GMC Sonoma with 258,000 which I got as a gift at 180,000.

Still driving my 1989 Honda CRX-SI that I bought new and have 134k miles on it now.
Been my only vehicle for the last 25 yrs and since I retired 12 yrs. ago I put few miles on it. 750 miles in last year.I still enjoy the heck out of driving it but am seriously considering getting a larger vehicle as it's getting to be quite a challenge getting in and out of now.

I drive a 1999 BMW 528, just turned 120,000. Build date was 10-23-1998, so that makes it 18 years old. I've been babying that car the last few years, but if you keep up with the oil changes......it will run forever. This is probably the last car I'll buy.

Had an 11/2000 build 528it - great car! Bought it with about 250k on it and show my last fillup on 9-30-2015 with 325,510 miles. Motor, AC,cruise etc all worked great but there were peripherals that would be high dollar to fix - and I figured if the money got spent on one little thing it would start an orgy of failures and spending. Passed it to my nephew, who delivered the coup de gras, and got a 2008 328it with 97,000(?). Not the car the 2000 was - and just spent about $1000 on the water pump etc. Maybe it will grow on me

2003 Toyota Camry - 83,000 miles. I bought it in 2005 when it had 32,000 miles so I've only added 51,000 in 11 years.

DH drives a 2001 Toyota Corolla with about 140,000. We bought it in 2007 and it already had about 90,000 miles.

I sold my last car, a 2006 Pontiac G6 at around 190,000 miles when it needed more work than I wanted to put into it.

1965 Chevy Impala has less than 43,000 original miles
2003 Chevy Silverado pick up has just over 83,000 miles
2006 Cadillac DTS just rolled over 73,000 miles today

The Cadillac will be racking up a lot more miles this winter with trips to Florida and Arizona then next summer to Wisconsin and Tennessee.

Depends. A couple of my late model 60's vintage collectables have over 100k miles but all have rebuilt motors, etc. (Can't be sure of the exact mileage on those since the odometers only go to 99,999 and are usually easy to "adjust" :).) My new daily drivers are between 15 and 40k. I seldom keep a daily driver longer than a few years and/or 50 to 60k miles.

Oldest is 2001 Mazda MPV minivan w/ 186,000 mi. Had transmission replaced at around 140k. Hope to squeeze out another 50k or so.

2013 Honda CRV - 56,000 mi
2008 Chevy Impala - 154,000

Our youngest son drives the car we replaced with the Impala. 1998 Acura - about 205,000

I'm a longtime BMW and Benz fan, but the newer cars leave me kinda cold.

My '95 540i has 269,000 miles on it. It was my "road warrior" commuter car for my 90-mile daily trip till I retired. I'd drive it anywhere.

I just picked up a 1995 525it with 190,000 miles. Pretty rust-free but it needs some headliner work. Eventally it'll fill the 540i's shoes.

1999 Buick Century. 44K. MIL's car I got when she entered NH 3 yrs ago.

1999 F150. V8. 5 speed manual. 103K. Used mainly to pull our small camper.

2000 Honda Civic. 163K. Very reliable for 17 years.

DH has a 95 Dodge Ram 1500 PU. Needs a paint job... but it still runs great. 160k miles.

My 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid has 108 miles. (Bought in 2005). Still has the original battery pack - so I expect that will need replacing soon.

We've been toying with the idea of picking up a new-to-us used car and let the boys share the truck... but I'm delaying that as long as I can. For now they have bus passes. :)

2004 Toyota Prius, built in 8/2003 bought it new on 11/3/2003 now has 118,000. miles. Will be curious to see how much longer it lasts as I have never had a car this long. Did have a 1992 Dodge Dakota pick up for 21 yrs before donating it to a Church ministry at approx. 140,000. miles

I like the way you think, and I get your handle now. I sold my 97 528 this year with 155k miles. Last year I bought a 2003 530 to replace it. It just has 93k miles.

Love the E39s.

:)

Yes Sir, my cover is blown. The Handle could pertain to my Golf Game.....but that's really not worth talking about.

I loved that Aluminum Straight 6. It made the car so balanced, the weight distribution was about 50-50. I put a set of Koni shocks all around and it handles like a brand new car. It would cost over $60K to get a new car to match that baby. I'm all in for around 6 large.

I've often wondered if the 530 version is quicker than the 528.

2004 Honda Accord V6 - 68,000 miles. I don't drive much.

2005 Honda Civic.....120,301 Km = 74,752 miles.

In September 2003, I retired my 1984 Chevy Blazer that had 454,000 miles on it officially, but the speedometer broke August 2002 after its 6th deer kill.:confused:

I currently drive a 2004 Chevy Colorado that I purchased in 2007, it had ~39,000 miles on it then. It presently has ~213,000 miles and going strong...it has twelve deer kills over the years.
