i particularly enjoy taking snaps of relics or artifacts or buildings that remind us of another time...they vanish if we don't watch for them :)

I came upon this midcentury motel today and it captivated me. Sharing.....

Not too far from where I am. Fond memories of staying in similar motels on family vacations many years ago. We would go to Panama City Beach in the 60s and these mom and pop motels were the norm. They are almost all gone now with only high price condos and cottages remaining.

I understand the nostalgia. My small hometown in southeast Georgia was along Hwy 341, which was a primary route from “somewhere up north” into Florida back before I-95 went in. The town enjoyed a boom of these tourist motels. Sadly, they dried up and are now dilapidated eyesores. Good to see this one still hanging in.

Thought that first photo said Fridge, Micro and Wife:D

Well these small motels have to compete somehow.
Plus they have weekly rates if it doesn't work out.

That's what "Tourist Courts" used to look like from Valdosta south in the mid 1960's.

The only time we went to Florida was in 1964 and we stayed in such a place. I'd never seen the Spanish Moss hanging down from the big trees.

And Daytona Beach completely overwhelmed a kid of 14--with all the beach scene and nightclubs. Daytona is so boring now most of the time.

Those "nostalgic" motels in Florida come with some pretty big roaches. They crawl in through the bathroom vents.

Looks familiar.
