Yahoo! I'm overweight! What an accomplishment! LOL

I shot right past that 227 number too. I've been in mega health mode this week as the doc appt. is a week from Friday, and it's paying off weight-wise.

Interestingly, and somewhat depressingly, I ran some blood tests on myself. I like to know ahead of time what the doc is going to see so I don't get blindsided like I did when I got diagnosed Type II diabetic. I used one of the WallyWorld mail in Ha1c tests for my 3 month blood sugar level, and surprisingly came in at 5.9 (6 or below is normal). So hooray for that.

However, I have a CardioChek testing device I bought a while back, and it says my cholesterol and triglycerides are significantly higher than I thought they'd be. As usual, my good cholesterol (HDL) is way low. Not much I can do about that (darn genetics).

So anyway, I guess I'm going to get put on meds after all, just maybe not for the diabetes. I hate the concept, so I'm going to continue the healthy lifestyle moving forward and see if I can get back off them in the future. Maybe I'll try the personal trainer route myself. I could use a muscle or two. :D

Thought I'd join the "fun"
wed. a.m. weight 125lbs. incl. cowboy boots
height - 5'12" without cowboy boots

carry on.......

I've been lurking in this thread for a while, and it's time for me to jump in. My weight is at an all time high, and I need to start trimming some pounds. I'm 6'3", with a largish frame (though my skeleton is probably more similar to Michael Phelps' than an NFL lineman's). My ponderous gut is more akin to an NFL lineman than Michael Phelps' 12-pack. :duh:

10/29/08: 285 lbs

Short term goal #1: 269 lbs
Long term goal: 225 lbs

Cut back on my soda a bit - Only buying 1 liters instead of 2 liters so it isn't in the house. I think soda is as addictive as cigarettes, especially when you are sitting at the computer.

Still lost a 1/2 pound but I was expecting to gain a few as I have also been eating a bit more then usual. It is not a a race to get in shape just a few pounds at a time.

Told my G/F if I get down to 190 I will take her to Hawaii all of a sudden my portion sizes have been cut down :)

126# this morning. (I suspect it is a false low, as I was 127-128 the last few mornings, but, I'll take it:D)

125#. Suspect the weight will climb up again a pound or two after this weekend - going out of town again. It's a constant tug of war to maintain my weight around this range, but I'm ok with that, since I don't have to constantly diet to maintain. That would really s*ck! I've found that I can be bad for a while (i.e. long weekend or vacation), as long as I'm pretty good about diet/exercise when I come back.

Welcome newcomers and congrats to those who lost this week!

Well, I think being held accountable might help me. I'm a guy, 5'10" and weigh 161 pounds. My all-time high weight was 170. I eat rather healthy. I haven't excercised in two years, but plan on starting up again once I get through my physical therapy which begins next week. (All minor ailments). I'd like to get down to 158-160 and stay there. I also need to lose about 2-3 inches off my waist. Wish me luck.

Making progress in the right direction this week. Might not look impressive, but after a 2-day weekend binge of airport food and too much restaurant food, it's not so bad.

I'm on a 3-day 1500 cal/day diet, and today is the final day of that. I eat much healthier foods when I do this, but cutting my caloric intake in half isn't much fun, so I don't do it often. And I'm trying to eventually eliminate caffeine from my diet. We'll see how that part goes.

10/29/08: 285 lbs
11/05/08: 285.6 lbs

Short term goal #1: 269 lbs
Long term goal: 225 lbs

Hmm, not the start I was looking to have here. I spot checked several times during the week, and was trending in the right direction, but this morning I'm up .6. I ate better (mostly) this week, but need to ramp up my aerobic exercise.

127lbs. this a.m.

I've added PB&J sandwiches to my menus....on whole grain bread, of course. Goal is to be 135lbs. by Jan. 1.

154 today, even after going to the fair last night with Sis and kids--just one corndog, though, I swear!
Headed down to a music festival for the weekend and will likely not have gone down next week, but maybe all that walking around will make it so I maintain.

180 this morning. I didn't behave on the business trip :(

I didn't weigh myself until after breakfast and I still had my pj's on - my scale shows no weight loss which means I must have lost something.

Rather than weighing in, my latest tool for measurement is each Wednesday after I finish my session with my trainer I come home and try on my size 10 pants. In 15 years of marriage I have gone from a size 2 to a size 12, I went from a 6 to 12 in the past 3 years. I'll know things are changing when I can zipper up those size 10s, which I am sad to say did go over my thighs today but if I had of done them up I probably would have suffered a heart attack due to lack of blood flow throughout my body.

What's up with this? I joined the forum last week and now I've gained a 1 1/2 pounds. I think the leftover Halloween candy had a lot to do with it.

Didn't post last week but am down two pounds from my original weight. Hooray! Only 18 lbs to go to reach my first target (I'm working in 20-lb increments).

Not sure next week will be a loss -- last night I indulged in a week's worth of alcohol and pumpkin pie -- but we were celebrating.

128#, as expected! Had fun on our weekend out-of-town trip, though!

Alan at least you had the courage to get on the scale. I am fearing it right now myself.

That's the engineer in me - I need feedback to affect control ;) although I know what you mean - 10 days of over-eating and no exercise makes getting on the scale pretty scary, I take a peek out of one eye to get the bad news

Looking good. Still moving in the right direction. With luck I'll get to my first goal before my birthday. That would be sweet!

Doctors appt Friday. Went in yesterday for the lab work. My HMO posts the results on the web so I've seen some of my numbers already. Ha1c 5.5 - excellent! No diabetes meds for Harley. HDL 27, LDL 144, TriG 138. Not so fab, but much better than a few months ago. It will be interesting to see what he has to say. Hopefully no other surprises.

It was in the ballpark, and I had another week of extremely good behavior between the two. I'm not sure how much difference a week can make. The differences were HDL 27/25, LDL 144/178, TriG 138/157. I'm not at home, so I can't swear to the second set of numbers, but it's pretty close. When I get home next week I'll do another test, see how the machine calibrates up against the lab. I'll let you know.

Update:

After weeks/months of worrying and working on my weight and blood numbers, I finally went in to see the doc. I had been convinced I was going to get put on diabetes meds, and probably cholesterol meds too. Shows what I know.

He was thrilled with the blood tests. No diabetes meds. He said not to worry about the morning high blood sugar readings, the HA1c is more important and mine is excellent. He also said that if my preliminary tests in 2005 hadn't been so high he'd be wondering if they had misdiagnosed me. That was great to hear!

As far as my cholesterol, he wants my LDL (bad) lower. He'd like my HDL (good) higher, but that's genetic and not much help for it. But my triglycerides were low enough he is going to take me off my med for that. He wants to get a baseline reading on it without meds in 2 months. Then he wants to maybe put me on Niacin. He said it's useful for raising HDL, lowering LDL and triglycerides, if you can deal with the side effects. Sounds like DW won't be the only one having hotflashes. ;)

He also said if my blood pressure continues to be good, he'll take me off that med too. So instead of being put on more and increasingly powerful meds, I'm going to trade 2 for 1, with that one being less intensive. I'm a happy camper. And I've got great incentives to continue kicking @ss and losing weight. Woohooo!
