If you sign up for a Part D plan that has a deductible before the plan starts paying, what rate do you pay for the drugs under the deductible?

Do you pay the ordinary retail price?

Do you pay the price negotiated by the plan (both your co-pay and the part that the plan will pay after you meet the deductible)? If so, how do you know what your drugs will cost before you meet the deductible?

Some plans do not require a deductible, (but they are not the least expensive overall.) Go to the medicare.gov site. In the compare part d drug plans section, enterr the required information and the drugs you currently take . It will run an estimated annual cost including monthly premium and deductible for you for up to four plans.

I am looking at the one my Mom is switching to. It shows the fixed monthly premium she will have deducted from her Social Security, the full cost of each of the drugs, the amount she will have to pay at the pharmacy each month until she reaches the annual deductible and an estimated monthly total thereafter. It really is a great tool.
