Cool USB power outlet

Looks like a good idea. I have an iPod Touch and an iPod Nano and to recharge them I have to turn on my computer and leave it on. It's a desktop so it's using quite a bit of power to leave it on just to charge my devices. Apple sells a charging plug for about $29. I found the same thing on eBay for under $4, looks just like the Apple one but not branded. But this is a cool idea even if it's $25. I love ThinkGeek stuff.

It's nice that USB may become a standard for charging things.

I have two of these, that cost under $5 each:

I use them to charge my iPod touch and my bicycle GPS.

The gal must have a half dozen of the cube type or other cheapy self bought Chinese USB chargers and several more iPhone corded chargers - pretty rare for her not to have the iPhone NOT plugged in as she overworks it's little brain. The cube type with USB are her favorite - very portable and she just carts around a USB cable. We've still bought two of the $25+ gotcha over a barrel chargers when the cheapies failed or disappeared. Visions of me having to do substantial receptacle swapping if she gets wind of the product and starts thinking of all the places she plugs in...

It might be significant to note that the standard iPod or iPhone chargers only put out five watts. The iPad wants more juice, so its charger puts out ten watts. These outlet chargers also put out ten watts, so they are iPad compatible, which is nice (and probably a developing trend).

Did everyone notice that "This product is not available for purchase at this time."

I was going to say, I bought a couple a while back and don't recall spending more than a buck or two each. These things fall into that category of "cheap electrical gadgets that shouldn't cost more than a buck or two including shipping". Ebay, amazon, and a few chinese direct ship retailers (meritline, dealextreme, and the like), are good first places to look. The quality of a $1 converter/gadget may not match the superiority (or sleek styling) of a $25 Apple (tm) branded gadget, but they often get the job done for the 2 years until your device is obsolete anyway.
