As a proponent of legalizing this and all "fun" drugs, I disagree. Most street drugs are used to alter consciousness, and most smokers/eaters of marijuana (at least from what I've seen/read) use it for that reason, just like many/most users of alcohol. But no one can reasonably dispute the fact that marijuana is less risky than most drugs, even if an uncontaminated supply is used in a sanitary manner. This, of course, includes my daily drug of alcohol.
Smoking a joint is NOT the same as intravenous injection with a dirty needle.
Never said pot was harmless, or "safe", but injecting an unknown substance directly into your blood stream with a contaminated needle is an entirely different animal. Ask the "War on Drugs" how hyperbole has worked all these years...
In your 1:01 pm post, you said "Smoking pot has absolutely nothing in common with mainlining street drugs with a dirty needle..."
Perhaps the highlighted language comes across more strongly than you intended; clearly, all brands of intoxicants, whether legal or not, have something in common. (I would be happy claiming pot is "safe," within any real life meaning of that term.)
Have a good weekend.
Cigarette smoking is legal as well but the health ramifications are horrendous. (1)Why smoke weed? (2)Is it worth the health risk? (3)Is smoking in "moderation" okay? (4)Is there even any such thing as smoking in moderation?
Sounds like Hippie Hill at the east end of Golden Gate park (near Stanyan). I'm told there is a gathering of people smoking the wacky baccy there at 4:20 most afternoons. The gathering on April 20th every year is of course, much larger. Many years ago there was a 6:00pm news cast. They were doing a remote from a public park that was having a “smoke-in”
I have to say, as time goes on any kind of smoking is losing its charm. THC-infused coconut oil gelcaps & other medibles, on the other hoof, are mediums far less abrasive and unhealthy. Sort of having your cake, and eating it, too.

Back in the 70's, the sheriff in a county outside of Cleveland raided a farm and harvested about a ton of MJ. They needed only a few pounds to make the case against the "farmer". The rest they announced would be burned in an open bonfire! The crowd at the burning were definitely mellow!

The only thing worse than a "stoner" is an old "stoner."
It has been five + years of chronic pain from spinal nerve damage, peripheral neuropathy, as well as arthritis, treated with Oxy/Hydro. Because of the fear of addiction, physical dependance, and the hallucinations that accompany the recommended dosages I frequently limit my meds until the pain level becomes too uncomfortable. Florida does not have MM except for extremely specific seizures so I am restricted by law to the real physically addictive narcotics for severe pain relief. No MM available for me to lead a more normal and pain reduced life.
Is there anyone with no severe pain management problems who is against legalizing MM willing to trade places? Probably not until you or a loved one are faced with the same conditions. Hope you are never in that situation.
For other reasons I don't have a problem with just making it legal for general consumption. Until the laws are changed in Florida I'm out of luck.
Cheers!

I know we barely missed on the constitutional amendment last year, with 57% voting for (needing 60%), but there is a bill that's been filed for the state legislature this year, and also another attempt at the constitutional amendment for 2016. Hopefully you'll have the option soon. Personally I wouldn't let the law get in the way, but different strokes for different folks.
