Yesterday I picked up our desktop computer from a repair shop. It died right after a power outage. Wouldn't boot, guy says the boot sector contains too many bad sectors. OK he says he can use a utility and copy a good one, repoint to it and all good.

I brought it home and great it comes up. DW wasn't happy with my sloppy job reconnecting everything back so I'm fixing it. Somehow I lost internet connectivity and chose to reboot it.

Of course it won't come back! I took it back and the guy checks it out and claims that he thinks it might be the adapters that support my wireless keyboard and mouse. He moves one to a different USB on a different bus and boom there it goes. He couldn't explain why it had been working for a few years like that. We'll see.

The power transient might have killed the old USB port that you had been using.

PS. Speaking of power outage, there's a thunderstorm where I am right now. For the last 5 days, a thunderstorm would develop every afternoon, and then came the rain, heavy at times. The lights would blink, but the power stayed on. I have been working on the deck project for 3 or 4 hours each day in the morning, then came inside for lunch and called it a day. All this rain is good for the trees, and the forest turns green and alive.

PPS. By the way, in the photo above, isn't Khan septic system an aerobic (above ground) type?

I joined a small group to ride along the D&L Trail / Delaware Canal from Easton PA to Washington's Crosssing (40 miles). It was very humid and 90 degrees by the time we finished. I'm now showered and in the nice AC with no plans to leave the couch tonight. Despite carrying and drinking lots of water, I can tell I'm dehydrated.

My wife and i like to travel and ride different rail trails. I am putting this one on my list, as well as Pine Creek trail, i believe you have mentioned previously. I think it is about 5-6 hours from me.

It's an anaerobic.

If you like to do multi-day (supported) rides, keep your eyes open for the PA Rails-to-Trails Sojourn in 2018. Our group was riding to scout the trail for next year's event. We wanted to look for potential lunch stops, etc.

If you just come to ride on your own, I recommend the D & L Trail between Glen Summit or Whitehaven and Jim Thorpe, through the Lehigh Gorge. I ride the Gorge quite often and it's much nicer scenery than most of the rest of the trail. I can recommend a good place to get a shuttle so you only have to ride downstream.

Last week we rode from Lehighton to Easton, which would be the second leg of the sojourn. The other riders on these two trips are more experienced than me and are used to rides of this length. They asked me to ride along to let them know how an occasional rider would fare. My "behind" got sore last week (it was the longest I had ever spent in the saddle). Not sore this week but drained from the heat & humidity. We all were.

Khan, Is it a requirement to have the house on stilts? It doesn't look like your neighbors homes are on stilts, older construction?

Thank you for this information, it really helps :)

Hauled a ton of hay (literally!) home today.....getting harder and harder to move those 80 lb bales every year! Cleaned up the barn afterwards.
Packing to leave town for a week...nice to get away from everything for awhile.

Went back to the gym for the first time in ages. I decided to either go and get my money's worth or just quit. Reading this forum has taught me how important health is to FIRE.

It felt good!

DW has been going through boxes of stuff in the basement and came across this photo from 1990. Whoever took the photo moved the camera during exposure so it's a bit blurry, but that is DW holding a radio control model airplane transmitter that I built from an Ace R/C kit. The plane she is flying is a Carl Goldberg model called a Butterfly, a powered sailplane with a .15 engine. I'm in the white shirt and orange hat. I have no idea who the other guy is.

We both still look the same.:D

It started to rain 1/2 hour ago. Thunderstorm and rain come every afternoon to this boondocks high country, as regularly as clockwork. A lightning bolt just hit the powerline near here, and the lights flickered. If we lose power, will have to leave for the low elevation home.

Been able to put in 3 to 4 hours of work each morning on the deck rebuild, and will finish it except for the railing in 2 or 3 more days.

Updated GoPro firmware and took the Gopro on a 2 hour bike ride to check it out. 88° was a little toasty for a bike ride. Spending the rest of the day inside to cool off.

Yesterday after work I replaced the blown out exhaust donut on my 52 GMC hot rod pickup. For those not mechanically familiar, it is the piece that seals the junction between the exhaust manifold and the tubing that heads back to the muffler. Long story short, I am moving and all of my other vehicles are in OH. So the 52 GMC and my wife's Explorer are the only two vehicles left here in NM. The 52 GMC is my daily driver for past couple weeks. Not a bad job, about 2 hours start to finish including making a quick run to auto parts store to get the new donut. Back to quiet again; given Murphy, the other side will probably blow out now.

I have made 4 round trips hauling stuff and vehicles back to OH in past four months, approx one trip/month. Only 9 more working days and then a final one-way trip early Aug. My house here is sold as of end of June, just renting it back from the buyer for month of July. House movers will take care of the house items, moving all my detached garage has been enough work.

Your thunderstorm is here, by now. Just now I was taking the most delicious nap and sleeping very deeply, when thunder awakened me. We have been having afternoon thunderstorms almost every day recently, but usually they start around 2:00-2:30 PM. Today they are a little late.

You mentioned how green the trees were in your neighborhood from the storms, and we are having the same effect. The grass in my yard is so lush and green this week, that it looks like an ad for vacationing in Ireland. Beautiful.

Hope you didn't have a power outage.

Well not today but a few days ago I bought a Toyota Rav4 . So far I love this car .It rides like a dream .I liked my Honda Crv but I was having recurrent air conditioning problems and my paint was coming off in large chunks .It was time to either throw major money at it or sell it .

YAY!!! I am so glad that you found a car you love, and I hope it works out better for you. Sounds like it will. Thank you for posting about it and letting us know what you selected.

Pilots & Paws mission

We flew down to San Diego to meet a man bring 2 German Shepherd puppies (45-52 pounds) from Tijuana to us to fly to a new home.
We loaded them into a large crate we had in the back of the airplane and delivered them to the lady who rescued them.

Wow, is my memory good or what? I still remember when you posted about buying that CRV. It's been perhaps 5 or 6 years? You bought it some time after Meadbh bought hers.

Wow, some people have good memories! I am not sure when Moemg bought her CRV, but I think I was reading her posts to help me decide. Or maybe that was W2R and the Venza! I bought my CRV on July 23, 2012, so it's almost 5 years old. I like the vehicle but I have had a few problems with it. Enough that I wouldn't automatically buy another one. Congratulations on the new RAV4, Moemg!

OK, we need to know when Moe bought hers to see if my memory is faulty. I could be wrong and got the timeline mixed up, as I have been doing more of that lately.

Your memory is fading . I bought it seven years ago and despite it being a good car . I was never truly crazy about it . It had great mileage , was reliable expect for that air conditioning and paint problems . The Rav4 has all the new safety equipment ,plus the ride is nicer and for only the second time in life I bought a car that was loaded .Maybe senility is setting in or Rob is affecting me instead of caviar I went for a top of the line radio system.
