Got the 18” scope in reasonable shape and took it out to the astronomy club’s observing site where I met a half dozen or so like minded people. Haven’t had it out in years and it made me appreciate being FIRE. Loading and unloading from the truck made me appreciate I’m not in my 30s any more, too.

Nothing too exciting here - ran kids back and forth as needed for the past few days. Walked on the beach every day with the dog. Went to breakfast at a local La Jolla place after the beach this morning.

Mainly I've been hiding inside because of the Miramar Airshow. Between the Blue Angels and the Patriots it's LOUD. Friday they were so low I thought they were going to take out some of the old aerial antennas some of the neighbors have on the roof. A neighbor took some photos from a park about 4 blocks from my house... Fortunately, today is the last day. One more show... I'll put on my husbands ear protection headphones and watch them fly in about 10 minutes.

Today was day two of the whitewater kayak class. Yesterday we learned techniques and strokes, today we put our skills to test on the river. We did a lot of practicing and spent six hours out there. I had opportunities to practice my roll in a couple of wave trains and was successful each time (what a great confidence boost!) DD did very well also.

Today marked the 50th day on the river for me this year!

I spent the last few days helping DD and hubby move into their first house. Also moved a couple of loads of my storage to their basement. DD will use what she needs from storage to furnish their house. The rest we will need to go through and decide what to keep and what to pitch. This has needed to be done for a long time. DD had a real problem with me downsizing when I moved to Colorado, but I think this will be a good time to get it done.

Although the weather has been hot during the days my pool water temperature keeps dropping with the cool nights so I closed the pool today. Summer is over for sure.

DW and I went to see "Wind River" yesterday, then out to dinner.

Nice leaf color in the Rocky Mountain. We have the same color in Northern Arizona in areas not dominated by evergreens. It's a shorter drive than to New England, although the latter has more colors.

Wow, your house is in such a great location! Sure, it's loud, but getting to see the Blue Angels from your own back yard must be so terrific. No traffic to battle and all the comforts of home.

Went and looked at Jeeps as a possible replacement for the two ATV's we sold at our farm auction a week ago.

80's here in Kansas City. Not Fall yet.

heh heh heh -

mapped out what I'm going to see on my Japan Korea Cruise in 3 weeks by:
♤ printed out www.whatsinport.com guides
♡ figured out how to do each city on my own, which I would prefer to do rather than being one of 40
◇ figured out that it's going to cost me 450¥ and 13,000₩ to do three of the cities. Will still do two tours with the ship + hikes. Will eat on ship which is walking distance to center of town
♧ then hiked up Mt Diablo

Took a 2 hour hike with DW and 2 dogs, flew the drone a few times and shot some video, and took a nap. Had curry for dinner, and a craft beer.

I have a love/hate relationship with my Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. It is very nice to drive on the road and will and has gone some awesome places off road. It is also great on snowy and muddy roads. I have also had more problems with it than any other car I bought new. Its been behaving itself the last few weeks, so I am planning to keep it for the duration right now. Good luck on finding the right one for you.

¥450 is ~$4 US. Not a bad deal?

I loved Japan when I got sent there on business trips. Hope you have a great time. The food was amazing.
I looked at the amounts twice (¥200 + ¥250) then went to the individual websites to confirm ... yep price was right. Then distance to ship and whether it can be walked .... again right! Plus available hikes.

That was my first reaction the first time she wrote about seeing air shows from the back yard but after thinking about it, I'd wager that about the 47th time it happens the noise starts to wear a bit thin.

After the 46th time you'll be deaf.

Reminds me of my early days in the Air Force. When locals would call the base complaining about the noise from takeoffs, we were trained to respond "That's the sound of freedom, sir/ma'am!"

I'm not sure if this reply should go in this thread or the Pet Peeve thread. We live in the flight pattern of the WVANG 167th Airlift Wing and it never occurred to me to complain about aircraft noise. We knew the airport was there when we bought the house. When I got my private license 40+ years ago that was where we went to do the mandatory three takeoffs & landings at a controlled field. If one does a minimum of due diligence simply looking at a google map or road map will show the airport.

I have zero sympathy for any moron who buys a house near an airport and then complains about airplane noise.

Sometimes I can get some neat pictures, and yes the sky really was that color:
