Chiming in to support you and your family, Alan. Picture all of us from E-R.org crowded into your son's room with flowers, balloons and best wishes. Not that the nurses would approve.
Just spoke with the ICU nurse looking after him and while he is making great progress he is not out of the woods yet and if the CPAP machine doesn't do it they will have to put him back on the ventilator. He hates the CPAP, saying it is like being in a wind tunnel and the nurse said that she has agreed that it will be 1 hour on, 1 hour off, but overnight he has to be on CPAP because breathing is naturally light while sleeping and he needs to keep up a good flow of air into his lungs. When not on CPAP he has an oxygen feed through the nose.
