Went to ranch after lunch and did some work and hauled water from river to water some trees. Still no rain.
The US Fishery guys from 4 different entities and 2 or 3 states where on the my river frontage locating Pallid Sturgeon. They will spend about 7 to 10 day in the spring and fall studying the Pallid endanger fish. In a 3 to 4 mile stretch on my river frontage is the pallid home and the biologists have told me that for years. There is only ~125 total in the US and they live in my area. They are a prehistorical fish and they have been using hatcheries in ND for reproduction of the fish.
The guys told me that the flood a few years back which went inland for many miles took the life of the oldest pallid and one that was chip tagged in 1990 the first they tagged. It got beached with reseeding waters and they found her signal and got the remains.
It has always been a interesting to go and watch them. Next week they will be there all week. I will be there on the river bank.

i worked a distant job, and then brought the excavator home to dig an irrigation spigot over to the porch for the drip system. I will put a 2" pipe in for an extension cord out to the RV cover in the same ditch.

I extracted a rabbit from my window well this morning. It jumped up on the grating that covers the window well a couple of days ago and fell through. I have a 4 inch corrugated drain pipe in the bottom of the window well that leads to the french drain. Every time I would get close, the rabbit would jump in the drain pipe. I finally got a piece of cardboard over the drain and could get down in the window well with a cardboard box. The rabbit could jump up about 5 or 6 feet, but not high enough to get out. After a few attempts, I caught him in his jump and he jumped from the box on out. I put the grate back over the drain pipe. I need to get the grate secured to the drain pipe. I think the wind blows it off.

According to the expert I consulted, you have to be vewwy, vewwy, quiet.

I take it the owner also had a screw loose.
[emoji854] Well he said it was a leghorn. Couple weeks after Easter they're pretty cheap.

Today I finally, finally, got an electronic part I ordered on eBay back in December. I'd given up and had reordered and received it from another source but evidently it was stuck sideways in the Suez canal.

Today I learned how to make up my own red JST connectors, they are commonly used in low-power R/C applications and a host of other electronic stuff. There is a learning curve to it but I went through the worst of that learning how to make up the servo connectors a few months ago.

Things advanced much more quickly when I stopped trying to force the connectors into the holders (if that's the proper word) upside down.

Weight training came in handy yesterday...GF had a 1949 Ford Anglia parked in someone's garage and it needed to be moved. I took the doors, hood, and a few assorted parts in a couple trips with her pickup truck then rented a car hauler to move the body of the car. It was missing the rear axle but had the front wheels and engine.

The person storing it used their skid steer to load it on the car hauler and I took it home. My weight lifting buddy came by and the two of us lifted the back end up and walked it off the trailer a couple feet at a time taking several breaks. It was heavy but not really that bad.

While enjoying another amazing afternoon outside with my best four legged buddy, i noticed a board on my deck lifting up. Contemplating whether or not to put down my adult beverage and fix it now or later. I finished my drink and had no excuse to not get up. Walked over to my shed and got the necessary tools and screws. Drilled two holes and screwed in two 4 " deck screws. Mission accomplished, that earned me another beverage. That my friends is a "win-win".

We almost always get snow on Mother's Day. This year was no exception. It was just a trace and falling lightly in the early morning. We'll probably get some rain this afternoon.

I went to my first public meeting in a loooong time. That was our off-road group annual kick-off meeting. It was well attended. We are all hoping for a great summer of off-road excursions.

^ had some rain and snow yesterday and this morning also. We finally got some measurable amount of 1" & 3/10's in a 34 hour time frame. It is a start but will much more to make a difference through the end of the year.

For the first time ever I built and almost completely covered an R/C airplane in one day. All that's left to do is cover the control surfaces (rudder, etc.) and install the electronics. It's a small "backyard flyer" that is small/light enough that it does not need to be registered so weather permitting I'll fly it tomorrow.

As an experiment I may later regret I'm covering it in transparent film, as in the "Visible Airplane" so all of the structure and internal components will be visible. The downside is that this may make orientation in flight more difficult since the top and bottom will look the same at more than 20 feet or so distance. We'll see.

Went hiking at Starved Rock State Park. It's usually very crowded, but not early this morning following a 2.5" rain. Played with my new camera there, trying to fine tune some settings.

Frank bought me lunch at our favorite restaurant. Then after we got home, my daughter called me to wish me Happy Mother's Day. We talked on the phone for a very long time so that was nice. Nobody talks longer on the phone than my DD. Now, laundry and internet.

After I finished two big home repair projects, I no longer had any excuse to postpone finishing my tax return, which is due in one week on Monday May 17th.

It is now almost finished, except for one confusing item about AZ charitable donation tax credit vs. Federal charity donation deduction. I put it aside for now, and turned off the PC. Will come back to it tomorrow. A guy can only take so much of this at one time. I already spent a few hours on this today, in addition to the hours I spent a few months ago.

After reading Markola's thread on remodeling I decided to try to revitalize my kitchen myself. Here's what the cupboards looked like before starting but after removing knobs. It's only 9×11 so I started. Good thing I'm retired. I've only gotten:
> knobs off
> washed
> lightly sanded
> stained to even it out
> 1st coat polyurethane on
Also washed, roughed up, coat of polyurethane on the 3 bathrooms. They were in good shape so didn't stain.

I'm beat. Won't get back to final coat bathrooms, 2nd coat kitchen until after dinner .... no wine tonight (I suck at refinishing when tipsy)

I'm thinking (now) of painting my cooktop stainless steel. Has anyone done that? I know I could replace it but (1) it works fine but more importantly (2) it's one of the last things that my dad did before he died. My glass top exploded and he came over & popped this in as a Hanukkah present. So there's an emotional attachment there. I know that's stupid but that's just the way it is. So I am wondering if anybody has tried to paint with liquid stainless steel?

We finally got some rain so I was indoors for one whole day and got out today. What a difference some rain can do. I stay busy all day and went back into an area that I found had a pair of golden eagles remaking an old nest in February. I got in and took a few pictures of mom on the nest. A couple weeks ago I posted a picture of the egg in the nest. I will follow up and try to get more pictures.

I skim coated the walls in a room that we are redoing. It was easier than I expected. I think I'll do another coat tomorrow, sand on Wednesday and paint on Thursday.

Hit the gym this morning, yardwork mid-day, and a nice long workout on full suspension mtn bike this afternoon.

Now I have Spanish rice, carne asada, and a healthy salad in the works for dinner.

Another great day in NorCAL.

Completed the road trip.

Here to Las Vegas (never going back to Las Vegas, got worse than I remember)
Las Vegas to Phoenix (2 days for wifey's friend's new husband to be birthday party)
Phoenix to LA (pick up wifey's daughter for 2 week home visit)
Back to here. Pizza in oven. Drinking tequila. Life is good!

Kinda busy though, the above took 5 days.

I deserve a really cold beer. Done until tomorrow. 1 more coat. Top shows starting condition, then after cleaning / stain / 1st coat polyurethane, 3rd pic is just finished applying 2nd coat. 20210510_183746.jpeg
