We all love the oldies, but how about something more recent? Here's my favorite. Actually, the video may be better than the song.

Sorry, I have Sirius XM and it only plays the 60's and 70's....

Here are a few that have caught my ear over the past few years:

There is an alternate version with rap in it. Skip that.

An Ed Sheeran song, but Pentatonix sings it better. (and accompanied by only a cello)

A fantastic soul arrangement of the Maroon 5 song - "Maps" -- performed by Morgan James, a woman with an incredible voice.

A great singer-songwriter, Lipbone Redding, introduced to me by this board's own ikubak

If you are an Alt rock fan, the last decade has been tough. We lost Scott Wieland, STP, Chester Bennington, Linkin Park, and Chris Cornell, Soundgarden and Audioslave (The singer that was so talented he had two bands!)

We were set to see Tedeshi Trucks at the Fox Theater in Atl in July the concert go rescheduled.

For Alt rock, The Black Keys, Cold War Kids, Kings of Leon, Modest Mouse, Cold Play and 21 Pilots have some good stuff.

For headbanging fight the man rock and roll, its hard to beat "Muse" Uprising

Couldn't find it on YouTube but there's a scene in THE BIG CHILL where the question is asked (something like) "Don't you have any music since the 60's?" And the answer is "There IS no other music." I think the scene introduces "Ain't Too Proud To Beg."

So sorry, I just can't even THINK of a song from the last decade. I'm that far gone, though YMMV.

I was thinking I couldn't come up with anything, but I did find that I'd downloaded this to use on my running play list.

Nick Lowe is good, I really enjoyed his Love Starvation / Trombone set of songs that were getting some play the year before covid.

+1

We've got Sirius XM in the car, set to channel 72 (Broadway show tunes). I love the songs from 2019's "Hadestown." Sure wish we could see the show.

(OTOH, if they play "Doe a deer" from "Sound of Music" one more time, I think I'll hurl my cookies out the car window).

That movie's appeal has always escaped me.

That was a great album by Anais Mitcthell (who I think hailed from VT though that's not relevant:)) with some great co work with Greg Brown.

Once Disco became popular I quit listening to new music. Sirius XM for 50s,60, and early 70s with some old country became the mainstay. The most recent song that caught my attention was a video by Postmodern Jukebox.

Cheers!

Like The Pentatonix and Rateliff and the Night Sweats a lot. The Pentatonix in particular sound like 21st-century doo-wop.

I like Americana music. Rhiannon Giddens' work spans the genre. This tune displays the power of her voice nicely.

Here's a Chicago boy, Jake LaBotz. Rolling Stone compared him to Tom Waits.

If you will indulge me in the time period, here are some women who have inspired and moved me over the years:

+1 on Tracy Chapman. I can think of better songs than Fast Car, but if she ever toured again, I’d be there for sure. I think New Beginnings has the most songs that I really like from her.

ETA: Given the other women in your list, I’m guessing you might have enjoyed listening to Sade. Saw her in concert and she is definitely a Smooth Operator.

Bruno Mars has a song out now called leave the door open. The video is a hoot, watching the band “dance”, especially the drummer. While it’s current, it reminds me a lot of an old Motown type song. I’ve never been a huge Bruno fan, but his talent reminds me of Michael Jackson and Sammy Davis Jr.

Very reminiscent of the Delfonics. Remember them?

This one from Florence Welch (Florence and the Machine) has caught my attention.

Those options are right up my alley too.

But sadly - Uprising by Muse came out in 2009 (not the last decade). Man are we getting old.

Being an LSU football fan, I always liked this one and wondered why I never heard it played in Tiger Stadium. Besides, I think Katie is cute.

I agree that the movie was flawed (and "Return of the Secaucus 7" was better.) Not much about TBC fit MY life but it WAS entertaining in its own morbid way. BUT the music was absolutely spot-on for me. I probably would have watched silent reruns of "Lucy" episodes to that soundtrack. Sometimes it really IS just about the music. THAT music (not the movie) WAS the sound-track of MY life though YMMV as ever.
