Well the day has finally arrived.... My 1st day of a 30 day window to sign my retirement paperwork and get the ball rolling for retiring on 1/1/22....
On one hand I'm   but on the other  .

its Like parachuting...
I'm almost scared to jump....
Who wants to push me out the door:confused:??

Congrats - just do it! I'll push if need be. And remember to keep your knees and feet together and eye the horizon!

Just do it.
How many posts have you read in this forum of "I should have retired later"?

Exciting!!! If you don't jump now, you may regret not jumping sooner. I wish you the best in the decision you make.

Old medic, that sounds like a vivid description of the way many of us will feel when that decision day comes. Feel blessed that you are to this point and ready to soon begin the next chapter in your life. Congratulations and thanks for sharing your feelings!
All the best.

I needed a little help out the door too. You can read some of Megacorp's nonsense on this website.

Are you financially ready?
Is your job driving you crazy (and not in a good way?)
Do you want to retire?
Than I say go for it!:)

old medic,

It's a wonderful but surreal time in life to be where you are at now.

We all went thru similar feelings of angst and fear of stopping work and having a pay check come in.

But as others have posted, if you have done the preparations and been honest with yourself about expenses vs Portfolio and are Good To Go, then Go !

I just retired this year effective 1-Feb-21 at age 61 and it has been wonderful to have the time to spend with ms gamboolgal and family and friends.

All the best and Congrats on your soon to be next new Chapter of Life !

These cartoons are really true !

I had a period of panic and regret after I retired. It lasted a couple of hours and then went away - :)

Did you save enough? If so, then no problem, right?

But when you're parachuting, you're going down, down, down. In this case, your life will be uphill after retirement.

Congratulations on making this milestone in life.

There you go.
Now welcome to the best part of your life.

Congratulations! I felt physically ill the day I signed my paperwork. It was not an indicator of a poor decision. I have enjoyed myself so much and I've been so glad I did it. I bet you will be too!

Congrats...I'm right behind you...I think?

Congratulations! I can't give you any insight or experience of what it's like on the other side...because I'm in the same boat as you. I'm looking at 12/31/21 as my last day with me starting to fill out paperwork around the 1st week in October which is ironically my 58th B-Day. Needless to say, I'm excited, yet terrified! I'm a planner and have planned for an earlier than 60 departure from the grind since I started working a real job 36 years ago. In fact, I was planning on 55 but when Covid hit the world, I thought it best I continue working. I think my biggest fear is the unknown, but I guess that is also what is exciting...one door closes and another opens. Good luck in your endeavors!
