Blow That Dough! -2021

All this talk of great beef has made me place an order;

(2) 20 oz gold grade cap of ribeye
(5) 1 lb packs (two 8 oz patties) wagyu burger
(4) 6 oz tenderloins
And I got a jar each of their steak and pork rub.

Paid the $25 for 2 day air - WooHoo!

Hey Robbie, as usual, your descriptions tempted me into trying something from Snake River as well. My gold grade cap of ribeye just arrived. But I have a question: the slab is perhaps 3/4 inch thick. You previously suggested cutting it into 1/2 inch strips to grill on the cut side. Question: so, these are now 1/2" x 3/4" strips that I throw on the grill, right? Seems like it'll take very few minutes to cook - correct?

I'm not Robbie, but for a 3/4" thick piece of beef, I would grill it whole on both sides until your instant read meat thermometer reads 130F internal.

It's tricky using a meat thermometer on such a thin cut of meat so maybe just go by color and instinct.
Take it off the grill too early rather than too late and cut it in half after a rest period. If too rare, put it back on grill for a bit...

+1

You definitely do not want to overcook and ruin an expensive cut.

Yeah, not long at all. I would salt and let sit on a plate on the counter for say half an hour, then scortch up the coals and let the grill get good and hot, then a couple minutes on each side should do it.

When I say good and hot I mean that when you slap the meat on the grill it should sizzle - :)

A wonderful weekend spoiling the grandchildren who came to visit.

I "needed" to spend $50 at the local grocery chain to get 25 cents off a gallon of gas. My granddaughters, ages 4 and 7, came with me to pick out 6 bath bombs (tennis-ball-sized, mainly Epsom salts and citric acid with a toy in the middle after it fizzes away) and cold cuts.

Lunch at Joe's BBQ (formerly Oklahoma Joe's), listed on Anthony Bourdain's list of 13 places to eat before you die, for 4 adults and 3 kids.

Dinner the next night at a local Italian restaurant for all of us. REALLY good meal and the staff was very accommodating and kid-friendly.

Haircuts at Shear Madness for 3 kids, plus some fancy sulfate-free shampoo the stylist suggested because the middle one had a dry patch on her scalp. They just happened to carry it, of course. I had them tear off the price tag so my daughter-in-law wouldn't freak out ($42.99). I was happy to find later that it's sold on-line at the same price so they were not gouging us. I may buy some for myself.

It all ran around $500 in total. Sorry. but I did not feed them wagyu beef while they were here. It is good to be Grandma.:D

Can I be your grandchild? :D It sounds like your family has a lot of fun. I'm sure your grandchildren had a great time. Cool grandma, for sure!

Nah. If you spoil the kids with Wagyu beef now, what will they demand in their teenage years? You fly them to Tokyo to have real Japanese Kobe beef?

It was funny- the kids didn't want to leave. I had to explain that day-to-day life here is pretty boring. I don't go out to restaurants every day. They have a swing set at home, they have their friends and the two girls LOVE their ballet classes.

I've taken the oldest to Chicago a couple of times, a 1-hour flight from where they live. We are SO looking forward to going again with her sister, who's now 4, but it's not safe yet. I'm hoping for trips that are longer and further away as they get older.

Isn't granding the best thing ever....? Once we were on the freeway immediately after leaving DD house. DD called and said the 3 year GD was crying and saying she wanted to live at our house. These under 10 year old years are priceless because they usually think Grandma walks on water.

You just described my perfect weekend. The 500 was worth every penny. The grand kids being born was one of the main reasons we didn't pull the trigger on the second snowbird home.

It's been said before: Too bad you can't have the grand kids FIRST.

I have been nursing my iPhone 7+ for a while thinking that I would get a mid-level 12 when the 13's came out and the price dropped. Now the plan is to go 13 Pro Max.

I just pre-ordered the new iPad mini to replace our 7 year old, gen 2 model. I was trying to justify the expense (not that it’s a problem, I’m just thrifty) when I realized that I have cc cash-back rewards equal to cost that were just waiting to be redeemed. I started to look around for a deal (not really expecting one) and found that I could save $40, 8%, at Amazon if I bought the “starlight” color. Since it will be going in a case anyway, color doesn’t matter to me. Paid for it on my 2% citi card, so now with the other discount, I’ve covered my sales tax…I guess this post is in the wrong thread, since it is essentially free. Sorry, I tried.

Free is always good to post!:)

The big box from Snake River Farms arrived today and they gave me a present. I ordered 2 gold grade 20 oz caps and they sent me 3. All were over 20 oz too. Sweet!

Don't know if it was an error or they just comped me. I do know that 3 days after I ordered they sent me an announcement that it was their anniversary and the whole site was 20% off. Which kinda irked me but hey maybe next time. So maybe they put one in the box just because I didn't call and whine?

Anyway, thanks SRF!

Maybe they've somehow figured out how much business you have drummed up for them! Assuming Friday nights Costco Wagyu tenderloin dinner goes well, this is where my next order will be placed.

It’s certainly something you can’t return, haha!

Sounds like Snake River Farms is also Blowing That Dough!

More kudos for SRF. I received a package from them today, and Fedex seriously dropped the ball on it. Delivered more than 24 hours later than promised but the meat was not only still frozen absolutely rock solid, there was still a fair amount of dry ice in the package.

They advise on their site that they "over pack" the dry ice for just that possibility.

Same here and they also used 2 gel packs that were still solid after sitting out on the front porch for 24 hours.

Yeah, good outfit!

Just came back from a 13 day vacation.
Spent $6,700 which was our most expensive vacation. Had a blast overall and ate at many top restaurants.

Vacation to where?

Vacation to where?

Road trip to Amelia Island, Savannah, St. Augustine. Most expensive hotel was in St. Augustine and most expensive restaurants in Savannah.
It was our first vacation together since late 2019.

Gearing up for camping, fly fishing, and photography. Sleeping bag, sleeping bag mat, waders, Camo shirts, duffel bag purchased. Just getting started. Need a fly rod, flies, misc tackle, tent, camping supplies, and probably more stuff that I haven't thought of yet.

That’s a relief!
