Blow That Dough! -2021

Thanks. I did decide to go with the gas/hybrid. Have to wait for it (it's in transit to the dealer) and it will require blowing a bit more dough, but, well, that's what it's there for. Looking forward to a new toy.

You'll get that dough back quickly with the price of gas particularly if you drive in town.

I'm very sorry to hear this. The AgedP is 89 and won't have much assets other than her house, but I'm trying to get ready since I'm the executor and my older sister will need all of her assets to make it. I'm trying to get AgedP to change her will beforehand and bequeath everything to my sister, since it will simplify things. Frankly, I'm not ready to deal with it. At all.

I'm a bit overwhelmed. My Dad died last week at age 90 after languishing in LTC after a stroke in March of last year. We were expecting it and, frankly, with the way he'd deteriorated the last month or so we hoped it wouldn't be too long. His assets, most of which are in Fidelity, and will be split evenly among my 4 siblings and me, are about $1.4 million. It was far more than I expected.

We're looking to plan a 7-10 day hike in West Ireland or Scotland (Isle of Skye to the north) in July-ish, potentially with some of our hiking friends, since we're optimists.

The flight at this point is more than the bookings with the agency for the hike, similar to the Kerry hike two years ago, but more exaggerated. I suspect flight costs will go down, but I'm an optimist. We've hiked both in the Kerry Way and the West Highland Way in the past (and the Lake District) so have some clue of what we are getting ourselves into.

I hope to officially be able to post a BTD early next week. A small miss cue on the closing this week so I hope all goes according to script next week.

Once I BTD it won't take me long to count my money any more. lol Only live once so why not BTD. Lol

cool can't wait to see some pictures.

It’s more fun to count acres than it is to count money. Acres provide enjoyment. Money just sits there.
You know Ron, that is so true!!! It is the frugal genes and those inner voices saying save that money. lol I do get so much satisfaction and enjoyment from that place why not only live once, and I can.

In my farmers mindset I don't consider buying land a blow the dough type thing. I consider it redeploying assets.

So I had to look what a lobster roll was. Lol It was what I thought it might be. So, Robbie you ordered the fresh lobster and then you made the rolls, right?

It would be something I would really like!
In New England and especially Maine it is practically a religion. Try getting in line at Red's Eats in Wiscasset Maine in July.:)

Lobster rolls tonight - :)

Yum.
Ever try Conneticut style lobster rolls? Buttery goodness.

Just booked a trip to Ireland for 11 days in June with a good friend. Very excited!!

Robbie-
Love that company. We have ordered live lobster from them many times. Always arrive alive and very reasonably priced. I need to do that again soon!

As I recall, and please Google it , the Inca trail hike is a couple of days. The train trip is a couple of hours, as i recall.
Altitude affects people differently. I was on a tour to Pike's Peak, and some in our group had to head down right away.
I took my wife to the top of the Jungfrau in Switzerland, which is over 11,000 feet. I was OK, and she had a headache and was short of breath.
You might look into Diamox, but is may have some side effects.

I had this same problem at Jungfrau. Got to 9000 feet in the train on the way up and got headache and slightly nauseous feeling. Just hung out gingerly as my friends enjoyed the sights. Then as soon as I reached 9000 on the way down, presto..felt fine.

I’m worried now that attempting high altitude stuff will be impossible for me. Does the Diamox work well?

Yeah, I do the fresh claw meat warmed (already cooked when arrives) in butter, then grill the buns with a wipe of the butter the meat is warming in and mayo the inside of the buns and then stuff in the meat.

Thanks Robbie. That looks awesome!!!

It’s full-sized candy bars for the trick or treaters this year

The word will spread quickly! Our old neighborhood had quite an efficient kid-network at Halloween. Be prepared with plenty of extras.

Only 21 kids came to the door. I’ve got an unopened box of bars to be returned to Costco.

Wifey bought a bag of "cheap crap" to give out. Mostly because we don't get a lot of kids and she will eat the good stuff left over.

Me I like the good stuff and look forward to leftovers.

I bought a bag of "good stuff", because I don't want any tricks because the treats suck - :)

This girl came to our home today. She's 6 pounds and 9.5 weeks old. Her mom was a mini bernedoodle and daddy was a tri color toy poodle. She's settling in nicely. I'm not sure if a pet is BTD but yes it was. 20211031_184803.jpg

Do the acres mean more work? I don't think I want to spend money to buy work.

No kids come to our neighborhood on Halloween. We live in a 55+ community of old farts. BUT, today I went to DD's house and hit her candy bowl before they hand it out tonight. I plan well.:D

Sometimes more acres mean more work. But work is relative. What is work to some is pleasure to others. And if work needs to be done, just hire someone to do it.

IMO, the fun that can be had on a vacant piece of rural land more than makes up for the little bit of work (if any) needed to maintain it.

No work involved in my case unless I want to make work out of it. I enjoy working the land and making improvements. Most improvements really don't cost anything but time and I have time and enjoy that type of work.

Forest, river frontage and wildlife land doesn't take any work at all. The ag land is done by someone else.
