Just put a deposit on a new car at way over MSRP (first time in my life), no choice - as we suddenly unexpectedly became a 1 car household (details in earlier threads so please don’t ask). If that’s not BTD I don’t know what is. :banghead:

You're not alone. I paid way over MSRP for my Jeep in June. Short supply = $$$$.

Wow, and here I thought I got taken to the cleaners by paying MSRP last week. I feel a little better now.

The first new car I ever bought I ordered custom to spec. Pre covid. After retirement

Got a grand off list. No bargaining. But hey, I got what I wanted - :)

Supply/demand, quotas and timing can have huge effects on price of vehicles. I have had a few I paid to much for. I can say I never have paid MSRP or above on vehicles. I start negotiating at 20% off of MSRP when dealing on vehicles. I play hard ball on price and do shop with that number as a goal. I bought one in February and got it in early March and paid 21% less of MSRP. I beleive that was my best to date and negotiating an outfit price.

I will add: I keep wondering what is wrong with this new vehicle, because I got a great deal. Lol There has to be something, just not sure what. This vehicle was a hold over 2020 also which helped a bunch.

I have had access to a family plan discount for all of my previous car purchases, and so have never bothered with negotiating, but given the current demand, dealers this time around said they'd only honor it if I ordered a car through them to be built. And I wasn't wanting to roll the dice on how long that might take.

My billfold got lighter today. I been in the process for about 7 months of purchasing more land bordering the ranch. Well, today it all come together, with the final money wired this AM. I just got word that the money is in sellers account and the deed/survey is on it's way to the recorder. So, I have a lot less money to count now, but I'm very excited about the new purchase. I will get much enjoyment from the new property.

Nice

^ Wow! If I may ask, is your property very extreme (home, shop, pool etc.) and do you have a large amount of land. I not asking how much land, just wondering where the tax dollars are taxed on to.

Typical Suburban Home ~$3,800sqft. Pool, 8k sqft lot. Nothing special.

Thanks ShokWaveRider.

^ actually Florida isn't a high tax state over all. I do believe they are a no personal income tax state. I don't believe they are even in the top 20 highest tax states.

For the year, or one installment?

IOW, many here would consider that a bargain, not BTD at all!
I consider BTD to be extra things I spend money on that I hadn't planned to. Property taxes, being a yearly obligation, does not count as BTD at all, to me anyway.

Just Paid North East Florida, St. Johns County, 2021 RE Taxes. $5,963.12. OUCH!

Wow! My 2020 RE taxes were $1,956 for the whole year. We haven't been told yet how much our 2021 RE taxes will be.

This is for my 1500 sf "Dream Home", a single story ranch-style brick home that I bought six years ago in an urban inner suburb of New Orleans.

I wish ours were as cheap as yours.

We pay $5,200 /yr for a 1,000 sq ft home, no pool, typical suburb home. Not near any beach :(

And we get snow free in the Winter, but sidewalks are NOT plowed...

Just bought myself and a friend 12 days in the sun. Paid 6x what I paid for 8 days a few years ago when I was still tucking money away. Will be interesting to see if i think upping the comfort is worth the (almost) 6x.

Just back from the oral surgeon where I had 2 implants placed after the tooth upholding a bridge decayed and had to be extracted. Looks like it will be $10K for both, all-in, including the dentist placing the prosthetic teeth after it's all healed. I am very grateful to have the resources for this. My teeth weren't programmed to last as long as the rest of me despite careful preventative care and these were my 6th and 7th implants. I'd have a patchwork of partial plates by now if I didn't have this option.

Primary home is just shy of $11k/yr and lakehouse is $7800/yr. But plans are to sell the primary home in the spring.
