'What do you wish you could do within walking distance of your home?

If I wanted things within walking distance from home, I'd move back into the city and that ain't going to happen.

I’d like to walk out my back door into a natural area where are few if any other humans
Sounds like where I live. Plenty of trees and assorted animals roaming around, but no humans in sight.

Define walking distance. I have a car shop that does most types of vehicle servicing plus many auto repairs that I drop off in the morning and walk home. Takes me about 25-30 minutes to make that walk.

If there is anything I wish were closer to our house, that would be a cellular tower. We are constantly fighting 1 bar +/- 1 bar.

I would like to either shoot or fish in my backyard.

Alas, I can't. Have to drive 10 miles to do do that. A pity.

Please introduce yourself! That's our custom here. Then we'd feel like we were talking to somebody, instead of an inanimate voice.

Also you could also fill out your profile.

I'd like to see Olympus Mons from my back deck, with no binoculars.

I’d like a Starbucks or ice cream place within walking distance.
What did I get? A Walgreens and an auto parts store.[emoji849]
Because who doesn’t need an auto parts store near by. ( insert sarcasm font)

Where I do walk is a couple of blocks down the street to the beach. If I walk a mile south of my home there are restaurants, grocery stores, hardware store, wine stores, ice cream shops, pharmacy, etc. Not sure what else I need that isn't an additional 2-3 mile drive or bike ride away that I could walk to if inclined.

Cheers!

Able to walk to a classic restaurant with dance floor, live full Swing or Tango orchestra.
With waiters who know their craft. And clientele which has good dress and social manners.
I might even have a Pied-a-terre in a city if such place existed.

Already have quite a few places within walking distance.
Live in a pretty accessible spot, short day travel in most directions gets us to ocean, mountain or warmer desert type climate.
Love to go to the beach, but wouldn't want to live there.

When we first moved here we were surrounded by hundreds of acres of dense forest and lots of wildlife. It was quiet, peaceful, and wonderful. Over time it was mostly logged off and replaced with McMansions. The largest was built a couple years ago right near our property line and now fills most of our views. They also have two constantly barking dogs. So sad.

Thankfully, we still have lots of trees on our own property and the deer walk through occasionally. I just wish we had a bigger buffer from the McNeighbors.

We live in a natural area, but we can walk 3 miles to downtown and 3 miles to a national park. 2 miles to a coffee shop. We also have a clubhouse with a restaurant. We walk to all often.

Interesting that after nearly two whole days, OP still has not posted in the "Hi, I am" forum (as requested) nor replied to any of the posts in this thread. A thread which has nothing to do with early retirement or FI, by the way.

Yes, I wonder what's up with him.

Oh well. I'll answer his question for the benefit of other forum members, if nothing else.

I live on a peaceful, tree-lined residential street located within a very urban inner suburb of New Orleans. Everything I can think of that I would want to do or need to do, is already within a mile or two of my home. Now is that walking distance? The older I get, the more difficult it is for me to walk that far.

W2R, are you near any of the public transportation? We enjoyed mixing walking with the streetcar on our recent trip to NO.

Yes! There's a bus stop a very short 1/2 block away, with frequent service. I need to start riding the bus sometimes. Thanks for reminding me! :D

Yeah, we have this. Can shoot from our kitchen deck and have a pond on the property that the deer love. But, if and when we sell out, we'll likely go to the other extreme and get a place with walking score of 90-100, rather than 0-5. Nothing wrong with either extreme; pick your flavor of tradeoff!

This person posted the exact same question on the City Data retirement forum on 3/5/23. At least I assume it's the same person, although they used a different user name. It is also their one and only post on that forum.

I imagine they are writing a clickbait article of some type.

I only live 50 miles away, but that's an hour by car. I might have to rethink this though....
This year we are standing on over 545 inches of snow so far to date with another 4 to 5 feet expected over the next several days. By the time they dig out to open, another storm hits!
