Anyone have any ideas what this is? It was on my deck this morning. At first I thought it was some sort of animal scat but it's also possible it's some sort fruit because there appear to also be little brown seeds. I have tried various identification apps and also tried Google images but not coming up with anything. I am in Kentucky if that helps.

I have checked scat images of squirrel, possum, raccoon, groundhog, fox, coyote, deer, rabbit, skunk, bear and none of them match.

Black beans? Soak them, then make some soup and see.

On second thought, I'm pretty sure it's deer.

It's pointy at both ends and there appears to be little brown seeds. Deer poop seems to be more rounded and not shiny. That was one of the first things I checked also. We've never seen a deer, but that doesn't mean it couldn't have been.

Also deer poop tends to be clustered more tightly than that and fairly mushy at first (I've stepped in enough of it to know). And deer tend to not enter tight spaces especially if there is nothing to munch on.

Is there a railing or anything overhead like where a critter could hang out and drop poop onto the deck?

Seems kinda like a large rodent - something in that variety of critter. Hard to judge scale from the photo.

There is a railing on both sides of where this was. It's like bridge connecting two decks. Up high there is a branch overhanging from a hackberry tree, but it doesn't seem large enough to support any real weight.

(just kidding ... ) Maybe title should be changed to "What kind of poop is this?" :( :(

Those are deck boards so they are like 4" wide. And you can see the screw heads if that helps judge the size.

It could be a civit. Brew some up and see if it is the best tasting coffee in the world.....or maybe it is deer poop.

Regarding deer, I have seen them on wood plank walkways in certain areas. Pellets are about the right size and shape. Landing on a hard surface might have made the pellets scatter a little more than I'm used to seeing in grass.

Looks similar to deer poop although smaller...

This thread is really starting to stink. :)

We've lived here over 28 years and have never seen a deer, but I know that isn't proof of anything. We had a wild turkey in the yard a year or so ago and that was first for us, so I suppose a deer is possible.

Here's an example of the real deal. (Deer poop that is)

Hope the mods don't get upset with me posting s**t on their website. :hide:

Yeah. But mine are shiny, more elongated and pointed on both ends. But, again, that's not proof of anything. I'm sure deers differ depending their diet.

Good luck, I'm out of here on this one!
