I usually watch the WS, but this year I just watched bits and pieces. I guess I wasn't the only one.

Per ESPN:

I watched games 3 and 5 primarily because a neighbor friend who is a mild Diamondbacks fan (he has a daughter working in Phoenix and she goes to their games) could not get the World Series. He has dropped cable but the streaming option he chose (Sling) does not broadcast local channels in our area. He let me know this on Sunday, so I offered to let him come by to watch the games.

During Game 3 we were still switching over to Monday Night Football during the commercial breaks :). We skipped game 4 since that was Halloween night, and we both had prior social commitments. Did not matter a whole lot to him, once he found out Texas was up 10-0 after 3 innings he had no desire to follow the rest of the game.

I was surprised at the size of the broadcast delay. MLB gameday on the mlb.com website seemed more than a minute ahead of the broadcast.

And though the Rangers were a wild card team, they spanked all of those "better" teams in a very convincing manner. This may have been another problem: the teams the Rangers played were not competitive with them, outside of the Astros.

Yes, the Rangers were not given much competition in the early rounds. I thought it would have been interesting if the Rangers faced the Twins in the ALCS, as the Twins stomped the Rangers 5-2 in the regular season, outscoring them 47-33, with all games being played virtually as a series, taking place Aug 24-27 and Sep 1-3.

I thought it was interesting that both the Rangers and the D-Backs swept their opponents in the wild card and division rounds, then it took them 7 games to win the LCS round. Both teams were down 3-2 going into Game 6 of the LCS rounds and both had to win 2 in a row on the road.

I was surprised at the size of the broadcast delay. MLB gameday on the mlb.com website seemed more than a minute ahead of the broadcast.

While at the games in Phoenix I was texting with a friend back in Minneapolis and we determined the delay between action live at the stadium and action on his Comcast cable feed in Minneapolis was only about 20 seconds. I was surprised as I have observed that same one minute delay you mentioned between MLB.com gameday and the action on Fox Sports 1 streaming app.

I have a time syncing device to sync up a tv broadcast of a game to a radio broadcast. Not an automatic process and takes some trial and error to get the sweet spot. But nice to listen to the descriptive home team radio broadcasters doing play by play while watching.

How do you do that? The radio broadcast is always ahead of the TV broadcast.

Do you find a streaming radio broadcast and somehow go back 10-15 seconds to get it to sync up to the TV?

I ask because typically you can't get live baseball games on the local radio station's streaming site.

This is what I use https://motron.com/product/rts-200c-radiotvsync-0-86-second-stereo-audio-delya/

I got mine at Amazon few years back.

The one I have has an older remote so I guess they replaced with a better one.

At the price, I considered it an investment. I use now to watch football. But game in real handy when Cubs games years back were a decent team and they didn't do the pay to watch thing.

I use this and also record the game with DVR. Between pausing the radio / DVR if needed, I eventually get the syncing pretty good. The live radio I'm using on is off the radio over the air broadcast.

My one shows some wear with scuff marks and the + button is a bit worn as I press that the most to delay the radio broadcast. I bought back in 2016.

Interesting. The device basically "buffers" the radio broadcast and "holds it" while you adjust the time until you want to release the radio content to your home stereo system (or other audio device with an amplifer.) Adjustments are made to the time delay on the radio content to get it to sync up with the TV content.

Yes. Buffers. For the rare cases where TV broadcast is faster than radio, that's where the recording and pausing slightly with DVR comes into play.

For my game setup, all I use is a portable radio as input and portable speaker for sound. Plus, I use one of they drill type batter inverters to plug into.

Love it! This has frustrated me for years and I never knew there was a solution.

So, my sister sent me an article that said there is a reliever that has now won 3 World Series rings in a row...

Was with Atlanta who beat the Astros....

Was traded to the Astros who won it last year...
Was on waiver and picked up by Texas.who won this year...

Said he is the only person in any major sport who has done this... deleted article so do not know who it is...

I wonder if he wants to go to another team and try and make it 4 in a row...

Yes, his name is Will Smith.

And he doesn’t need to go to a new team to make it 4. Just stand pat.

Yes he does... 4 rings at 4 teams... who cares about 2 rings at the same team...

Translation: The teams involved were not from big market areas like New York, L.A. or Chicago so the built-in fan base was not large enough to be a decent TV audience.

IOW Flyover country.:(

Per ESPN:
We watched a couple of innings for a 2 or 3 games. They start late and we're not staying up for the whole game. Plus, no interest in either team.

The Othani watch during the winter meetings to see where he lands is getting silly. All these sports reporters trying to give "breaking news" only to have to pull the story back.

Latest is one saying he signed with Toronto and now the reporter apologized saying that was inaccurate.

I suppose MLB would be too embarrassed to also have a postseason series of the teams with the best reg season record in each league. I'd watch that more than the current-format World Series.

I suppose that would be embarrassing to make a change that very few people besides you want.

But if you join, they'll be twice as much quality demand. Meanwhile, we can rely on digital simulations.

This is me being surprised.

As a Diamondbacks fan, I wish he did sign with Toronto! Now he's deferring most of contract until the end to save the Dodgers some luxury tax money, I guess out of the goodness of his heart. From his agent:
Who in their right mind gets to this level and decides he wants to help the team and the city compete above all else and basically says, ‘I don’t need it.’ Nobody does that. But there is nobody like him. This is the epitome of thinking about others, of pure intentions.

Before I gag, Ohtani will likely be living elsewhere than higher-tax California when the windfall payments start, saving him LOTS in state income taxes. A win-win.

For Ohtani, I believe the Dodgers also agreed to throw in the Royals plus a small market team to be named later.

Will Smith signed with the KC Royals. So, I guess we now know who will be your 2024 champions lol. Hard to see that. OTOH, didn’t see my Rangers winning it all this time last year.

The Dodgers will be paying Ohtani $68M per year for years after he's retired. They didn't need to do that.
