Delaying RE Draggon, please remove my 9/25/20 date from this list. My company just converted all I.T. employees to remote-work. Bye bye cubicle :greetings10: As a result, I have delayed my ER date. Looks like I'm now in the Class of 2021.

    Class of 2020

On my way home from work and thinking that we'll always remember this year, not just for our retirements... but also for the Coronavirus pandemic, stock market crash of 30+%, and a viscious global recession. 2020 will be memorable in more ways than one!

Does Anyone Else Wish We Would Enter a Bear Market?

Dow closed at 23,553. We are now down 20% and technically in a bear market. FYI... bear markets historically see a 30% market delcine.

Does Anyone Else Wish We Would Enter a Bear Market?

Typically it's when the average closes below the 20% mark. For the Dow, a close below 23,640 would do it. We're several hundred points below this mark in the final hour of trading. On the S&P, the close would need to be below 2,708... we're trading right on this level now.

Partial retirement sooner or full retirement later

Great info. I just PM'd you.

How do you change your mindset?

Great words of wisdom RxMan. I just printed your bullet points and now have them pinned to my cubicle wall at MegaCorp (next to all the maps I printed of the places I will visit in FIRE).

Wow, this one hits home for me as well. Job=Money=Identity...a difficult cultural norm to break.

Only 6 more months in the cubicle...

Wow I am so fortunate to be a part of this community. I don't talk about early retirement/FI with family or co-workers--they just don't relate to my frame of mind. But now I FINALLY found a community that "gets" me. I send a huge THANK YOU to each of you for responding. I truly appreciate all...

Same here. I tuned into CNBC and saw a blood-red title: "Markets in Turmoil". And I smiled. What can I say...I love a good sale at the market.

What are your hobbies? Changed in retirement??

Agree that we still likely have farther to fall. Having said that, it's impossible to say when or by how much, so it's prudent to nibble on high-quality companies with attractive valuations. The dividend aristocrats are a great place to start, particularly domestic companies like T, VZ, MO, etc.

Only 6 more months in the cubicle...

Brewer, you get me! It's as if a fog has taken over my mind, and I can't focus on MegaCorp like I used to. And I'm now discovering that this mental fog seems to grow as my date gets closer.

Beat up companies with great dividends?

Some great suggestions in this thread. Have to agree with ABBV, MO, T, and XOM...all dividend aristocrats, battle-tested through wars, 9/11, dot-com bust, the great recession...and continue to annually raise their dividends through it all.

Poll: Who is selling today’s (March 2nd) “dead cat bounce “

Ditto...so much value in the markets these days. Even with the "bounce" many compnaies remain very attractive.

Only 6 more months in the cubicle...

Hi all, I'm early 40s, consultant (software engineer), corporate cog for 15 years. Six months until financial independence. I was browsing the web for advice on "how to survive the final months" until retirement...and discovered this amazing community. At this point, the anticipation is...
