Outlier - a data point on a graph or in a set of results that is very much bigger or smaller than the next nearest data point. I would call less than 50% ($1.22) of the current national avg price of eggs of $3 an outlier. Also it would help if you actually read the article before commenting...

All good points... add on to the fact of birth decline and aging population in most developed countries which will put even more inflationary pressure on society.

Count yourself lucky as $3 is the national cpi avg so looks like your area is the outlier. https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/03/business/egg-prices-cal-maine-bird-flu/index.html

That short relief in grocery aisle seems to be trending backwards again. Eggs @ Aldi is $3 a dozen again (supposedly another avian flu), cocoa prices are at all time high, and energy prices are trending up so I don't see prices of groceries going down anytime soon. In terms of rent prices, I...

The different strategy is because they McDs are primarily franchised and In-N-Out is not. Each franchisee can set whatever price they want, although corporate will give them guidance on the pricing based on their market/area. Also once you become franchised you can forget about quality and...

    Thinking of adding QQQ?

Use QQQM instead... its basically the same fund with lower ER, geared towards long term investors vs. traders.

    Chasing Yield or Wise Move?

What's wrong with the strategy is you think you can predict the future. If you feel strongly about the adjustment and understand the risk/reward its probably not a big deal. As long as you won't adversely impact your overall investing/financial goals you can just chalk this up as a "hobby".

I think what most people forget is that a recession is part of a normal economic cycle to reset the economy and is actually good for the economy every so often. What is not good is the Fed/Gov't constantly intervening trying to prevent/delay the recession. This only inflates the recession when...

UPS workers aren't doing too shabby themselves too. It looks like we have entered a new era of higher wages... which does not bode well for taming inflation. https://www.cnbc.com/2023/08/22/ups-workers-approve-new-labor-contract.html

Increase in oil and gas prices may have started to reflect on grocery items. A few of my staple items from Aldi: avocado (.59->.79), bag of spinach (.99->1.29), potato (1.19->1.47 per lb), 3 pack garlic (.99->1.49) have jumped quite significantly from previous month. Inflation seems sticky.

Those were the good ol'days... in my neck of the woods fries has joined in on the shrinkflation party. Every where I've been I noticed that they have drastically reduced the fries given in meals to about half of what they used to give. The most annoying culprit is when they try to skimp on the...

    Tulsa Trip Recommendations

Used to travel to Tulsa a couple times a year for work a couple things I recall was the Oral Roberts Praying hands sculpture, was very impressive structure and easily accessible. For a nice fancy meal, Mahgoany Steakhouse was our go to place.

    China -> Taiwan

Xi basically rooted out any dissent within the party so I don't think he would need to explain to anyone if no action were taken and if anyone did try to question it, I'm pretty sure they would be "re-educated" in heartbeat.

    Dalio Speaks

Dalio has been on tirade over the decline of the US for many years already and he does make some good points, however I think what he fails to take into account is that US is still the best of the worst. US debt is still the safest in the world and keep in mind some other countries are still...

How worried should I be about the debt ceiling fiasco

It is worrisome as the impact of an impasse is huge, however the likelihood of it happening is very low. The best you can do is try to hedge a little in case if it does really happen. Here is a good explanation from Rob Berger of the impact and what can be done to hedge a bit.

    Opinions on Utilities/XLU

VPU has been on my radar since it dropped quite a bit a month ago and I was looking for an entry point around 135, but its been going up like gangbuster the past month in which I don't see the value play anymore. With recession talk looming it'll probably be more resilient than most sectors...

    Latest Inflation Numbers and Discussion

Might I add the dreaded words "This time is different" as the debt levels (both national/corporate) weren't this high in the 80s/90s as such companies could keep chugging along. If the feds were to keep raising rates or even just holding the rates steady at around ~5 for a year or two... I...

    Big jump in Homeowners insurance

Another data point in So Cal... just got my renewal for my condo insurance and it went up a whopping 65% from 2022. Its more than doubled since 2020... time to start looking for other options. Its ridiculous that companies don't even think twice about raising prices for consumers nowadays as...

    JEPQ: What Am I Missing?

Lower expense ratio. QQQM is for the cost conscious ETF buyer, QQQ is the "brand name" ETF, but they are basically the same product in terms of holdings.

    JEPQ: What Am I Missing?

JEPQ generates its income via NASDAQ covered calls and ELN similar to JEPI. If you think NASDAQ is going to start shooting up then you should opt for QQQM not JEPQ because JEPQ's primary purpose is a stream of income, not growth. If you think NASDAQ will be flat or fluctuate then JEPQ would be...

    Horrendous customer service at Vanguard

Second time calling Vanguard as I wanted to see if there was a way on the website to view what the coupon rate is for the treasuries I currently hold as it shows 0% once its purchased on the holdings tab. Within 5 mins got to speak with a representative (seemed like she was in a call center as...
