Really thinking the end of May, 2013. We're both 53, and recently told by both our Financial Advisor and Tax CPA that we could go now. DW wants to keep working, as she loves her job. Me? Just want to pound out some overtime until spring and set aside some money for the house projects that I'll have the time to do. I also want to help our daughter and son-in-law build a house for their family. I really enjoy the posts on this site, it's nice to know I'm not alone in my apprehension.

I've declared to some close friends that March 31, 2013 is it, although I'm reconsidering whether it ought to be January 1. Either way, I'll be 63, so I am either the oldest in the 2013 class or I don't belong on an "early retirement" board. I liked Badger's post, by the way, about what it felt like.

Add me to the list

Here is Step 2 of our "retirement plan". Step 1 was last year when we bought the truck. Step 3 is to turn in our notices - but the date for that is still up for debate (Jan vs April). But Step 2 is sure a strong argument for making Step 3 sooner rather than later :D

Ain't she pretty? We've been "browsing" for 7 years in preparation for this day. Tonight we sat on the back deck with a drink in our hands and just stared at her. Of course, that was after we got done looking like the Keystone Cops trying to back her in and get her unhitched.

I'm adding myself to the list to make it feel more real. I might want to retire in Spring of 2013. I can, but do I want to? Seems right to be on the list, anyway. Best of luck to everyone.

Nice rig, KM. I hope you keep us posted on your travels!

Add me to the list- 80% sure it will be may of 2013, at 54. Wife is going to take the plunge at the same time she will be 53.

Can't get to 100% sure yet, I know we have the $$, but greed keeps me thinking that maybe I should stay a little longer and collect more.

Then I think, you've got an opportunity that a lot of others would kill for, what is wrong with you?

The internal debate continues.......

The one deciding factor is once you feel OK about the FI part you have to remember that you don't get the time back, so you balance it all out and make an informed selection. For me my vote is 2013, 2013, 2013... One other person at w*rk is going out the month before me and when all the meeting and BS take their toll we look at each other and a small chant of 2013, 2013 start to fill the airways!!

Thanks for the reply. Well, after a great weekend coming back to the grind is rough, 2013 really sounding good.

Also, I think of a good friend recently diagnosed with terminal cancer at age 65, given 6 months to live- he was contemplating retirement at the time he got the diagnoses, and probably has the assets to have retired years ago- don't want to be in those shoes

I have thought of that a number of times as either friends or family have fallen ill or passed away. For me that is the #1 reality check and that alone with the history of males in my family makes my decision an easy one. I am just so thankfull that I will have the opportunity to ER.
