No, I don't think it's getting harder. I got it in 3 today, Hard Mode, (my average/median is 4) and it took me less time than usual. Same with my archive.

And what's with the golf terms? This isn't golf, and I don't play golf. What the heck is wrong with 1,2,3,4,5,6?

How about we start expressing scores in Watts? I got it in 12V and 48 Ohms today.

Generically speaking, there are more words now starting with a vowel and more words using 2 of the same letters.

It looks like you are correct; there has been a concentration of leading vowels and repeated letters since NYT started hosting. But, again, that same set of words would have come out on the original site if they hadn't started hosting, as the answers are predetermined.

In the list below, a "1" in the first column is a leading vowel, and a "1" in the second column is repeated letter. There was a hard streak on the old site starting with game 231 and a hard streak on the new site starting with game 237. But the sample size is too small to make any conclusions.

It's possible, though, that the original game was biased to get harder over time, but I don't see a pattern that indicates that. In the attached image, the leftmost blue 2 and pink 4 indicate 2 leading vowels and 4 double letters in the first 24 games reported on this thread. Each additional column represents successive 24 game sums.

Too many possibilities at every guess! This is one where easy mode would probably make a difference. I keep forgetting to turn on hard mode, which is how I play. Today I remembered after my first guess, then canceled the game and tried to start over. No dice, I was stuck with my opening guess in easy mode. Tomorrow I'll try to remember.

Yeah my 2nd guess had your 3rd guess correct letters.
Took me 6 guesses coz of all the possibilities and guessing the wrong ones until the end.
