On Thursday, I got a call from a friend in CT, where I used to live. She told me that a mutual friend, S, died of a massive heart attack the day before. This was completely unexpected and she had no medical problems that had been detected.

S has been my friend for 15 years. We played racquetball together when I lived there, and stayed in touch after I left. We saw each other about 3-4 times a year, and emailed/talked quite often. She was a kind, loving, outgoing person who touched many lives.

I drove 300 miles Friday for the wake, funeral was Saturday, 300 miles back. That's a long time to be in the car by yourself when you are dealing with a loss such as this. It was a very tough trip for me, but at least I was able to try to comfort her husband and share memories of S with my other friends, and pray that she has found a better place.

I am stunned and saddened. She was only 43.

S, may you rest in peace.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

She must have been very special indeed because she had such a caring friend like you.

Peace, prayers, and blessings to you and your friend's loved ones.

I'm very sorry for the loss of your friend. :( It's so hard seeing someone so young pass let alone someone you've been friends with for a long time.

Take care.

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

i'm sorry kaudrey, sounds like you lost someone you cared about a lot...i hope we all remember moments like these and do our best to love our loved ones well while we can!

Sorry to hear about your loss, especially since she was so young.

Thanks everyone.

The fact that she was so young and there was no warning is what is hard to come to grips with. I lost a friend a few years ago to leukemia (at age 42), and as hard as that was, at least we had a year to say goodbye.

On a happier note, my aunt, who had surgery last week to remove a tumor in her colon, is recovering quite well. So, I am very thankful for that.

I appreciate everyone's condolences.

Wow, so young. It does remind us to love our friends and family every day. That can be hard to remember. I am so sorry for your loss. I am glad to hear that your aunt is doing well.
