All diets can work (that is, it works if you follow it) but not all diets will help you keep weight off long term.
If you have the idea that you can follow a "diet" for a period of time, lose weight, then go back to eating the foods you like it is highly likely that the weight loss won't be permanent.
It is preferable to find a way of eating that you can follow for the rest of your life. During the weight loss phase you eat less calories of course and then when you are at goal weight you increase your calories until you maintain a stable weight. However, the types of food you eat doesn't change.
