Watching habits

I have CNBC all day. The minute I wake up till 3:00pm when Cramer comes online. Then we watch it again at 5:30pm for NBR news, then BBC, then maybe Rick Steves show at 7:30pm. When it's done my husband put his favorite music DVD.

I don't have a TV.

Me either. And the last time I had one, is all I would do was click through the channels, get bored, and turn it back off.

With satellite internet, I don't have enough data to stream anything.

I get the Broncos on the OTA radio during football season so I am happy. :)

I used to watch baseball but our team pays dancing grounds crews so the actual baseball is secondary so the team is bad. Seahawks are fun to watch. Otherwise some Netflix shows in the evening. No news.

We watch TV usually after 8PM and mostly Sports , Netflix Movies or series , Shark Tank or Amazon Prime but I have my guilty pleasures of HGTV and my favorite trash show 90 day finance .It is like a car crash you can not look away .

We do not watch any TV news. Really dislike it as most of it is so negative. DH watches TCM but I rarely watch movies on TV either. I enjoy watching the awards shows - Grammys, Oscars, SAG Awards, Golden Globes - but only DVR'd so I can skip through parts I'm not interested in. I really enjoy House Hunters International & Caribbean Life on HGTV. We both love NFL football, again DVR'd only. So ....

NFL - 80%

TV is on in our home maybe 3 hours/week.

34 posts, and no-one's mentioned Chauncey Gardiner.

The news is a bit overstated. DW has a particular morning news program on weekdays, but I do not follow all of it, and if we are away we do not record it like a few other things. It is hard to say on the split between fiction and non-fiction. It depends on what shows are new at the time. The sports is only our alumni college football, in season.

Don't watch broadcast TV.

Watch streamed video on the TV - Netflix, Amazon Video, and PBS currently - 1/2 hour to 1.5 hours per day. Just during meals and sometimes listen during meal prep.

So - the TV is not on very much at all.

I spend far more time on the iPad - reading or web surfing.

My kids call it all "screen time" whether broadcast or cable TV, streaming, tablet, computer, smart phone use, and monitor the total quantity for their kids. I think that's a good way to look at it. I spend way more screen time that doesn't involve TV and should cut that back to only the time our big TV is on.

Fiction: 60%
Reality (mostly travel/home porn): 40%

I don't get my news on TV and (to the great disappointment of my father) never cared for sports.

I don't watch much TV anyway, it's usually background noise while I read when the DW watches in the evening. When we go to bed, we will watch an episode of "Frasier". I wonder when they made the show if they ever fathomed that one day, people could watch EVERY SINGLE EPISODE, on demand over the internet? Is fascinating to me how far we have come in the world of technology.

As per Imolderinu categories:

1. News: Less than 10%

2. Fiction... including movies, series, and Netflix/Amazon/Hulu et al. :85%

3. DIY, Travel, Food, Show biz, Talk, Quiz shows, Weather and like that... 5%

4. Sports: 0%

1. News => 6%

2. Fiction... including movies, series, and Netflix/Amazon/Hulu et al. => 15%

3. DIY, Travel, Food, Show biz, Talk, Quiz shows, Weather and like that... => 11%

4. Sports => 70%

I grew up with parents who watch the 6-6:30 news and 11-11:30 news and that was it. I still have that habit.

Most of category 2 is from streaming services, I barely watch current TV shows series (more and more plots just seem rehashed) and cannot stand the reality shows. I prefer the ability to watch several episodes of an interesting show at the same time, at the time of my choosing.

Category 3 is mainly weather and historical shows, I'm just not a talk show person.

I love sports, maybe because if I'm not active, I'd rather watch others being active, as that keeps me striving to be active. In addition, those shows hold the highest element of suspense/surprise for me.

I'm guessing here.

20% sports--part of the super bowl most years.
80% "news"--sometimes I see part of the local weather when DW has it on and i walk through the room.

News 10%... I watch PBS Newshour most evenings while I prepare dinner. I also watch Washington Week every Friday night. CNN on rare occasions... usually for live ongoing coverage of some big event.

Fiction 0%... no interest whatsoever. DW watches a lot though, so it's on most evenings and I get some exposure to it.

Nonfiction 70%... mostly documentaries on science, technology, nature, and history... either on Curiosity Stream, Science Go, PBS, or YouTube. Some DIY stuff, mostly woodworking related on YouTube.

Sports 20%... we watch about half of Texas Rangers games every year and similar percentage of Dallas Cowboys... not much interest in basketball, hockey, or college sports. DW and I love the Tour de France, so that's been dominating our TV time last couple weeks.

I should have said that we watch almost 100% fiction.

I may occasionally catch a nature program.

No news!

No sports!

No reality TV!

No DIY! Although I used to enjoy cooking shows.

I watch little to none. Most days none. Some days 5 pm local news and/or 5:30 national new. Every so often 60 Minutes. Every so often The Adams Family on MeTv (I love Lurch). That's it.

News 10%, Fiction 75%, Other 10%, Sports 5%

I get more news and sports via online sources than via TV.
