Well, today was supposed to be my first official day of retirement. However, I was asked to work one more day... which I gladly did. The one extra day extended my paid benefits for one more month and gave me 2 more days of additional vacation pay. I win!
Some years we just leave the area during Mardi Gras, and some years we don't. Living here, we do realize and appreciate that some people would kill for the opportunity to enjoy it just steps from the comforts of home. We try to remember that and enjoy the fun, even though for us it also can be a little tedious at times.
Wow, do I ever hear you!
When I lived in Rio de Janeiro, I couldn't wait the first year to get down to the Sambadrome for the Carnival parades. The funniest thing was having to push my way through the hordes of international passengers who had just debarked from all the cruise ships to get to the same place.
Exhilarating, exciting, exhausting, and occasionally dangerous, it was more than worth the effort. The first time. In subsequent years, I was more than happy to just watch the parades on TV and avoid the crazy crowds. I would imagine Mardi Gras is very similar for those who live there.
That is so funny. Hopefully tomorrow the most painful part is the memory.Got taken out at the dog park today...I hear it was hilarious looking.
I was throwing the ball for my dog when a lightning fast border collie chasing another dog, suddenly turned and hit me just below the knees head on. I went @ss over tea kettle. In the 5 seconds that I was on the ground trying to figure out why I was on the ground I was descended on by the pack so got a thorough face licking. My husband got to me and helped me up.
I'm not really hurt, more stiff right now. Tomorrow will be interesting.

So it was "yesterday"...but a very lucky day...
1. Went to "The Closet" our local resale store. Bought an almost new pair of Nike's... my size... $1... and then a great pair of $60 Haggar khaki's, also my size...$1.... and a still-in-the package, Black and Decker undercounter can opener... for $2.
2. Next... trip to Aldi, which is undergoing some changes to display area, and needs to clear out some of the frozen goods... 5lbs of 80/20 hamburg for $6. Then.. Spiral Hams... 11lb at $.75/lb... (bought 2)... and next... the 12 grain bread which is usually $1.89, nearing "'sell date", on sale for $.49. We freeze the bread anyway, so buying 6 loaves is no big deal... and the avocados @ $.49 for a super bowl dip.
3. Finally... the BIG ONE... Home again... tried on the pants... Perfect. Reached into right hand pocket... hmmm??
... something there. A handkerchief?... nope!... a rubber band around a roll of bills... Yeah...
$114.00.
One regret... It was a wind chill of -18 degrees, so DW decided it was too cold to go out and buy a lottery ticket.
