What's your recent concert?

Saw Tracksuit Wedding and The Fray last night. Ogden Theatre, very small venue and we were about 6 rows back. The Fray were amazing and a fantastic show, and to top that it was a benefit concert for a great cause.
Very disappointed with Dave Matthews a couple of months ago. No energy and not engaging with the audience at all.
Elton John as he was closing his Las Vegas residency and had great seats and really enjoyed it.
F1 race Austin, TX and saw Bruno Mars and was a fun and energetic show. Outside so fabulous pyrotechnics. Concerts included in 3 day pass, and didn't even bother to stay for Britney Spears after the race.
Have decided that more interested in taking the kids to events rather than giving things so will be seeing more shows and sporting events...

DW and I took a date night to see the "Motown Christmas" concert. It was a great mix of traditional Christmas songs, Christmas songs done Motown style, and Motown songs. The performers had been members of several of the Motown groups - not original members, but one had been in a group long enough to come a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when the group was voted in. They (and the band) were great in recreating the Motown Sound.

DD and I attended a house concert over the weekend featuring neo-bluegrass singer/songwriter Robbie Fulks. If you ever have a chance to see him, don't hesitate!

This month we attended holiday concerts by the USAF Band of the Golden West and a local community symphony orchestra.

Took the plunge and went to an indoor concert for the first time since The Before Times. (Covid levels are low here.)
Lyle Lovett and the Large Band in a 19th century Opera House. Wonderful sound even in our nose bleed seats.
Fun night had by all.

Good to hear that you enjoyed the concert. We’ve got tics to see him in Sugar Land, TX on Aug. 27. Looking forward to it.

Saw Lyle L. with his band, not the large one, in Greensboro. Was great. Actually, LAST concert was Bonnie Raitt. Didn't know she'd have an opening act, and this lady came out, assisted to the mike. I'm sitting there going, "Can't be BR, what happened to her?" Then realized it was Lucinda Williams. I checked and she'd had a stroke a couple of years ago. Did impact her performance to a degree but was still very good. BR was excellent.

Yacht Rock Revue at Wolftrap in Vienna Virginia. Great music, fine band and.lots of people in yachting caps, ascots and jackets.

And beautiful weather for this outdoor venue here a couple of weeks ago.

We saw that group at The Stone Pony Summer concert stage in Asbury Park last summer. Enjoyed it very much. The yachting caps were a hoot!

I just saw Steely Dan at the PNC Arts Center in NJ, another outdoor venue, a month ago. What a great group with nice tributes to Walter Becker from Donald Fagan.

DW and I went with a group of friends to see Earth, Wind & Fire and Santana yesterday at Jiffy Lube Live in Virginia. our group chose to beat the rush and arrived about 3 hours before concert time nad tailgate in the parking lot - fortunately we were able to get spots near shady areas to hang out, eat, and talk.

The concert was great. DW and I stood and danced through most of it.

The three original members of Earth Wind & Fire are 71, and Carlos Santana is 75, but they were still spry for their ages. During the concert they have old video footage synchronized with some of the songs. Seeing video of Santana at age 22 at Woodstock as "Soul Sacrifice" was played live was something else. The Earth, Wind & Fire videos reminded me of when I first saw them in 1977. Unlike when EWF played with Chicago, they did not share the stage, both bands played separately.

The venue ended up being almost full. A wide age range from folks our childrens ages (early-mid 20s) to people older than us. But every was very peaceful and pleasant. See the prices inside the venue, I am glad we tailgated and stuffed ourselves beforehand (grin).

We did not get back home until almost 2Am this morning, so today is a "do nothing" day :)

Sounds like a great show. I had wondered how EW&F sound without the great Maurice White.

I love three-generation and widely diverse audiences. They are the proof that music is the universal language. EWF and Santana must have been an amazing show. Glad for you!

Reviving a fun thread as have not seen a lot on this recently.

Leonid and Friends (the Russian band which covers Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire and others) is on a US tour. I caught them last night before a packed audience at House of Blues in Dallas. Show is better than ever. Ksenia (the female singer) covered the Carpentes' Superstar and Rufus/Chaka Khan's Ain't Nobody to add a new dimension to the show. They performed numerous Chicago hits focusing mostly on the earlier days.

EW&F's Fantasy led the second set and Kontantin's falsetto credibly conjuring Philip Bailey, was a highlight among many. They also performed Steely Dan's My Old School.

Catch them if you can.

We saw Depeche Mode last weekend in Dallas. Great show! They've been going 40+ years, although only two remaining original members.

Saw two shows recently. Jason Isbell and Natalie Merchant. Isbell gave one of the best concerts I've seen. Truly excellent. Merchant was not as good, but still a great one.

Thanks Montecfo for getting this thread going again. My DW and I love concerts and go often. We just saw the Eagles in Boston in September on a visit to see our daughter. They still can put on an awesome show! Vince Gil and Deacon Frey (RIP Glenn) fit right in. Steely Dan opened for them and were fantastic as well. A few months ago we saw Little River Band in a beautiful small outdoor venue on the water- bring your chairs and watch the show! Back in February we saw Springsteen- we grew up in New Jersey and this was our 5th time over 40 years - he was talking about a high school friend who was in his first band that recently passed away and said that when you are 15 years old your life is full of hellos and tomorrows and when you are in your 70's you life is full of good byes and todays! That hit audience hard and you could hear a pin drop. Just bought tickets for Blood, Sweat, and Tears in a small venue in February. Music to us brings back memories, moves us- physically!! and emotionally, and we enjoy the connection between the artists and the audience. Rock on!

We have tix to see them in Vegas in December. Glad to hear they're still going strong and putting on a good show.

Saw Brian Setzer at Foxwood Casino last Friday. Great show, and i liked the venue. And a lot of dinner and shopping options at Foxwood also. Nice place.

willie nelson coming our way in a week -- may go see him, but i doubt he'll be playing long at 90

Probably not at all very soon. Good to see him while you can.

Well George Burns was still smoking and performing well into his 90s. Bodes well for Willie who is still smoking:cool: - and performing.

Live long and prosper, Willie!

I'm all for that. But then again we have lost so many of the greats. That is why I say see them now before THEY kick it.

I was too late for John Stewart, Gerry Rafferty, Meat Loaf, The Cranberries (RIP Delores O'riordan), etc.

Glad I saw Tom Petty twice, ELO including with Kelly Groucutt, Fleetwood Mac with Christine McVie, Three Dog Night with Cory Wells, Chicago with Terry Kath, Frankie Valli etc.

^^^^ I truly regret not seeing Tom Petty while I had the chance. He played my town, too, the year he died so unexpectedly.

Last month we saw Andy Summers do his solo guitar and photography show in a small venue. He told great stories and jammed. He’s 80 now, which is hard to believe.

We saw a free show by Sheila E at the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater in McLaren Park, San Francisco this last Saturday. Great show and good vibes all round. It was a hot day in the SF East Bay where I live, and I was not too keen on the idea of sitting outside for several hours in the raging sun. However, there were a lot of trees and plenty of shade in the park, and the temperatures were much cooler there than at home (gotta love the various micro-climates of the Bay Area).

Every summer, there are a lot of great free shows in San Francisco. This year alone, there was Patti Smith and Bob Mould, and Flaming Lips at Stern Grove park, to name just two. Then there's the annual Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival in Golden Gate Park, which is also free (many acts including, this year, Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle, Rufus Wainwright, and Rickie Lee Jones). I'm not too keen on the idea of mingling in large crowds, especially in hot, sweaty weather, but this show was perfect. Mild weather, lots of shade, and plenty of space to sit on the grass and chill out. My friend and I found two sawn-off tree stumps to sit on, so we had great seats!

Sheila E has still got it on the drums.

Me too. He played here as well. I thought about going and am now kicking myself for not doing so.
