Would you stay in a marriage if your spouse Cheated?

I am curious what the reaction people would have to a situation like Rep. Weiner and Weinergate, where you got your spouse sending sexual pictures to another person.
Reminds me of the old joke, "Do you have any photos of your spouse naked?"

The deal-killer wouldn't necessarily be the sexting. It'd be the lying that goes along with it.

They have been married less than a year. Where I his wife I would cut my losses and kick him to the curb. His behavior is sleazebag stuff, the maturity of a high school student and probably only one example of risk taking.

At one level I think that men who behave inappropriately are just getting caught more often because of the fact that women are tolerating less and/or technology makes them easier to catch. On another level I am coming to believe that some men over estimate their ability to 'catch and release' without consequences... risk takers.

I'm sensing some ambivalence here... would you be able to more clearly express how you really feel?

His wife Huma is lovely and Hillary Clinton's aide.

She obviously can do much better. If she foolishly does stick with him, I hope that her boss gives her lots of suggestion on how to get back at the SOB.

Frankly what is completely amazing to me is how a guy with the last name of Weiner did stuff this foolish. Hell even the least talent comedy writer can come up with a dozen jokes before lunch.

Yeah I think Huma will be long gone a year from now. A lot of these guys (Clinton is another example) seem to have some kind of self destructive idiot thing going. Weiner added insult to injury by gratuitously noting that he told his wife about some of these activities before marrying her but she thought he was ending them.

I would put Weiner's misdeeds in a different category...

He did not meet any of the ladies... he did not have sex with any of them (or at least that is what we hear)...

But, I did hear he talked to a few.... so who knows what would have happened if someone took the bait...

Being married less than a year, I would bet his wife will look for someone else... if they were married for 10 or 15 and had some kids, probably not...

Now I really don't want to know how they met...

I wonder if this kind of thing is not some odd compulsion. I mean an affair has a clear payoff, though it may have problems too.

But sending strangers pictures or your Willy? I mean most junior high kids don't even think of doing that, if you do think of it you are likely sick.

Ha

You lead a very sheltered life, Ha.

I dunno. The internet has released all kinds of fetishes and habits. Gambling and porno are the leading industries. But sexting and other habits just seem to be coming into their own.

I have a divorced friend who has met women on Plenty of Fish. And one was offended to find him still active after they had dated. I guess she thought they were going steady... ;)

Dunno the details of the situation...but better for her that she figured out that he's still 'playing the field' before she got too involved with him.

There is an old saying, "She lacks the complexion for the connection."
Apparently this saying is no longer true, or at least not true in the US, or in this instance.

Who is on house arrest awaiting trial?

Ha

My question was: "How did she know?"

The answer was that her single daughter alerted her to it!

And they did "go steady" for 3 years.

Yikes! His "going steady" meant it was OK to for him to "play the field"? Sounds like she may have wasted 3 years of her life.

She did not view it that way. She loved him but he works as a farmer, 5 hours drive away from her home. It was the travel toll that finally did them in.

I like them both and I can understand why each of them made that decision. For her it was her work and proximity to her family. For him, it was his lifelong dream to run a vineyard and winery.

Your friend should have broken up with his steady and told her he wanted to see other people. Three years of companionship deserves this consideration. She is well rid of him.

And Huma should get an annulment. This guy is an oddball and has disgraced his office. He should do the honorable thing and resign. But I don't think he would know the honorable course of action from a hole in the ground. And who are all these women sexting and talking dirty to him (for free yet!)? Don't they have anything better to do with their time? Aren't they afraid some maniac might track them down somehow? Obviously not.

My dear departed Mother once observed that people who talk sex, or about the sexual activities of others, aren't busy enough. This comment was made about 40 years ago. Nothing much, but the medium, has changed.

The NYT article I was reading this morning led to reading some of the stuff on biggovernment.com and radar.com Weiner Sexting Partner Reveals Her Identity, Says:

One gal was a Las Vegas casino worker, another was a gal who has a short 'rap sheet', etc.

I think they may be women who like the connection with someone they perceive as being in a powerful position. Not unlike Monica Lewinsky.

The person who seems to have more to lose is Mr. Wiener: he's a member of Congress and had his sights set on (and seemed to be the party favorite for) Mayor of NYC. Plus, he just recently married.

Ah, I didn't know that they knew who he was. It makes him sound even crazier and his correspondents less so....there is the possibility of their 15 minutes of fame and maybe even a little remuneration (if one is not averse to this sort of seamy celebrity). Maybe they will get a spread in a magazine like some of Tiger's girls.

I don't think men, in particular, are in a position to understand how threatened a woman can feel when a man forces himself upon her. I would advise my daughter to comply and live another day. In that position she is not consenting but surviving.
