Not much has changed. As Yogi often said, it's like deja-vu, all over again.

The main effect of that bizarre call was to get some US media coverage. Good outcome in spite of the ruling, thankfully.

First post-season win in 22 years being outshone by The Cubs! Go Cubs. Go Jays...

Yes, must be disappointing if you are a Rangers fan. They really choked. Never seen so many errors at once. Looked bush league. On to KC. Would be nice if Price got back to form.

I still think of Houston as an NL team. Can't shake the memories.

I would bet that the Dodgers and Mets would disagree with your first stmt.... they play tonight...

I do not understand why you think the playoffs are different than the regular season.... KC was 1 and Toronto 2.... seems they were the best two teams...

St. Louis lost, but the #2 team can get in with a win tonight... that would be 3 of the 4 highest ranked teams.... and the Cubs won more games than some ranked higher than them....

Just saying the numbers do not support your feelings.... but who am I to say as I did not follow the season that much.....

I suppose I meant psychologically. Like when announcers use that well-worn oldie, "we've got a brand-new game!".

Regardless, it's a fun game.

Definitely. DH had a fun email exchange with his lifelong Cardinal fan BIL who is unabashedly rooting for the Cubs now (as we have rooted for the post-season Cards lo these many years). ⚾️

Whoops. You're right, I forgot about tonight's game - championships are NOT set. Jumped the gun there. As they say... my bad!

It might be because I assumed who'd win tonight. Which I'd rather not say, I'll watch instead.

Back to form? Price is 0-6 as a starter in the post season. Hes the Peyton Manning of baseball. Great career but stinks in the post season.

This is why I don't want the Cubs to sign him this off season.

Having been down this road before, I was trying not to get my hopes up for a game 5 win. Poor Andrus, he probably feels a lot worse than many of us.

Addison Russel is out for the Cubs for the NCLS. That could be an important injury. Need his defense. From what I hear, his injury isn't that severe but once you substitute for someone due to injury (as in the case when Baez replaced him), the injured player has to sit out the next series.

Baez will be fine a short defensively and has a more potent bat as long as he manages the strike zone. We will be fine.

Not sure what you are saying about having to sit out the next series.

I was surprised too reading about that rule of having to sit out:

Quote:
By rule, if a player is on a playoff roster but has to be replaced mid-series because of an injury, he's not allowed back on the roster for the next round. The Cubs didn't want to take a chance of being caught shorthanded or losing Russell for the duration of the playoffs, so his "moderate" hamstring injury will keep him from playing in the NLCS.
Cubs rule SS Addison Russell out of NLCS with hamstring strain - ABC News

Ordinarily, if Russel was healthy, the pattern was putting Baez at second for Castro in late innings for defense. That's the depth the Cubs lose. But maybe Baez will hit a couple more homers to balance things out .

Have to give props to the Astros. Here's one indication of the character of the team.

Its going to be interestiing next year in the AL West. Houston is loaded with young talent that now has some valuable experience and Texas will have a full season of healthy Darvish, Hamels, Holland, and Perez together (fingers crossed).

Yes, just wait until next year. That should be "Houston's" slogan. It's timeless, as they have proven over and over again.

Baseball 2015

First, Sling froze mid-pitch. Then the power went out (for real). But all's well now and the championships ARE set.

I loved this mid-80s commercial set in the cheap seats at Wrigley. I think the actor was Dennis Franz, but maybe not. He was playing the "typical" Chicago dude, looked like no stranger to cholesterol, sitting lonely up there, having a beer (Bud, probably). He looked at the camera and said,

"What the heck is a Met"
