This might be the vaguest poll ever--favorite chefs? Cookbooks? Are they fighting?

Since it wasn't specified, I assume that we can make the poll whatever we want to make it.

I want it to be a "favorite chef" poll, so I will vote "other". My favorite chefs are Joe Impastato and Anthony Montalbano Jr.

Tony B? For cooking or travel? Since he runs a couple of kitchens over the years, but his show is more on traveling (and he's on the Travel Channel) the question is confusing.

As for me? I'm more of a Diners, Drive-ins and Dives : Guy Fieri : Food Network kind of guy, with Guy Fieri, if you're speaking of food. His show (triple D) showcases the food I desire, but can no longer eat ...

As for travel? I'll just ask DW (she's the globetrotter)...

Also, has anyone here ever dined at either Waters' or Bourdain's restaurant? Would love to hear what it was like.

Since neither one of them has ever cooked for me, I can't say which chef I prefer.

But I like Bourdain's TV show and Waters' cookbooks.

Are they both TV chefs? I'm not sure. If "favorite TV show" was meant, then my vote of "other" still stands. I prefer SVU to watching people cook things I can't eat and probably wouldn't like anyway.

I've watched several of Anthony's programs. I don't think he's particularly handsome, but I do think he's sexy...with a little danger mixed in. Too bad he doesn't have a Texas drawl...

If you know what this is about, you're most likely a foodie, please vote. If you don't, it's not worth getting up to speed just to vote. However, if you Google their names together...again, not suggesting you need to.

I've eaten at both their restaurants (Chez Panisse & Les Halles), neither has cooked in either for most of the last 10 to 20 years. They are both excellent, but not competitors, and not even targeting the same price points. Their food philosophies are not the same.

AB is a showman, good tv perhaps but really not so special.

AW has presented a philosophy and way of treating ingredients that has changed the way food is sourced and prepared in many restaurants across the US (and in some other places, too!)

Full disclosure - have eaten at Chez Panisse - enjoyed it. Don't even know where AB plies his trade.

Every time I watch Bourdain's "No Reservations," it makes me want to call the airlines up right then and book a ticket to whatever city he is profiling. For that reason, I actually don't watch much; it's too tempting. My list of places to visit gets longer and longer...

I ate at Chez Panisse years ago---wasn't blown away (except by the high prices), but appreciate what she has done to encourage people to eat good, locally grown, healthy foods. My answer was definitely AW since she caters more to vegetarians (that would be me!) and AB has said some idiotic things about how vegetarians/vegans don't even deserve to be served in a restaurant. I can't believe AB's food is that great to justify his arrogance....

My only contact here is with Bourdain, whose TV show I watch and like a lot. Aside from often being interesting, the show is scripted and produced with more care than other TV chefs'. I appreciate that. I also like Andrew Zimmern's show, on the same channel.

As far as TV chefs go, my favorites are Ina Garten, Nigella Lawson and Alton Brown.

I do watch Anthony Bourdain, and find him entertaining up to a point. Could not take a steady diet of him as his snarkiness would get to me. My favorite episode was AB visiting Sardinia with his wife and daughter. Her family lives there, and he definitely toned it down a bit. Every other word was not bleeped out, as I take it they are conservative, and I think he watched his p's and q's.

I have read a couple of AB's books. I own an Alice Waters cookbook. I have never eaten at either of their establishments but am sure I would enjoy both. My tastes run a little more to the vegetarian although I do eat meat.

AB has gotten less snarky and generally improved his on/off camera craft as time has gone on i think.
