I know there are many causes of chest pain, but was wondering if this sounds like it might be asthma. Occasionally when I am outside, I get chest pains and the feeling of not being able to breathe deeply (as opposed of shortness of breath). I have recently been to a cardiologist and he said my heart is good. When I am outside in my yard, I do not get these chest pains, but if I am around more of a nature area (like a trail), I do get chest pains, that may last for a couple of days - nothing really severe, but I notice it. I also have numerous allergies which affects my sinuses. I did have asthma and the wheezing as a child, but seemed to outgrow it. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow so will mention it to him. Does this sound to anyone like this could be asthma? Can a doctor tell if you have asthma or COPD from the stethoscope? Is there a definitive test to determine if you have asthma or other respiratory illness? I know there could be many possibilities but is seems like my allergy history, along with the fact that I did have asthma as a child, would make asthma a possibility that at least should be ruled out. Any suggestions?

I can't comment on your chest pains, however DH had asthma as a child. It went a way for a few years, but came back in his mid 20's. (this was over 30 years ago). I don't know what test he was given (if any). But I do know he went to our regular PCP which diagnosed asthma.

Here's a link that might help....

I have severe seasonal allergy induced asthma.
Chest pain would not enter into my description of symptoms. More of the classic tightness of airways, restricted breathing etc...
Feels like you can't relax and take a deep breath. Breathing takes effort.
Hope that helps.

I also have astma and this would describe my symptoms plus a lot of coughing .

I had similar experiences starting back in 2007. I also had childhood asthma and when my breathing became labored, I assumed the asthma was back.

Went through a full range of tests with asthma specialist and was certified Asthma FREE.

But, during the process, the DR explained to me that I was experiencing LERD. The chest pain is caused by GERD... which is the acid liquid moving into the Esophagus causing heart burn. The breathing difficulty was caused by acid vapor travelling into the throat and back down into the lungs. Lung tissue and stomach acid just do belong together.

It took a few years, but I had to make a number of lifestyle and diet modifications. When I do things properly, my GERD and LERD are under control.

There is an allergy aspect to my condition. It appeared to me that I could tolerate low level allergy irritations (both airborne and food). But, once some threshold was crossed, my GERD and LERD became acute. Since I could not control the airborne allergens, I had to find my food triggers (which were many) and simply avoid most of those foods.

For LERD, pay attention to your throat in the morning. If there is any soreness, then acid vapors are most likely causing the pain.
