Off Beat Ideas

Years ago a buddy talked about single application shampoo. He wanted to package it in small egg shaped pods that you cracked in your hair. The ultimate was to have the egg itself to become realistic with yolk and white.

I'd still like to see concrete tires and inflatable roads.

That makes me recall this idea of a road tax: putting in threadmills in the road to extract power from vehicles to generate power. All vehicles climb this threadmill, and the heavier vehicles pay the most tax. EVs cannot escape this tax either.

It also satisfies the need of those maniac drivers who want to peg their speedometer; they see 100mph on their dashboard, but the threadmill is moving 40mph.

Do you have an off-beat idea where others think you're off your rocker?

Sure, just look at most of my post on this site. :D

IOW, do you look at the world differently than those around you? What the world thinks is perfectly normal, you raise an eyebrow?

Often. But I still have hope that the rest of the world will eventually come around to my way of thinking. :)

If we can ignore those pesky physics problems -
A self-powered travel trailer. No need for a large, expensive, and infrequently used tow vehicle.
Isn't that what a motor-home is?

Ha

Ha

Yes it is, my brilliant idea is something slightly different, see post #16

Edit - to add clarity to my crazy idea, the powered trailer can now be towed with a conventional mid sized SUV or such, no need for a large truck/tow vehicle.

A painless way to eliminate useless body parts.

Such as toenails. They serve no practical purpose, take up time to trim. And ladies spend fortunes to decorate the darn things.

It seems, from what i am learning now, the secret of brewing great beer is mainly due to the selection and management of the yeast. The rest is shadow.

Was told in the early days of PC (computers, not politics) that I needed to learn DOS or "prepare to be left behind". Having little to no detail inclinations, not being an engineer, and having difficulty learning even simple foreign languages or "advanced' math (algebra, etc.), I thought, no way, and prepared to be "left behind".

Then, Windows threw me a line line.......

My off-beat idea was retiring at 55.

Not being even slightly off-beat, I stopped working at the conventionally accepted age of 46.

Perhaps a book you've read, a video on Youtube, or a website.

Let's share.

I gave up watching the news on TV or on my computer. I also don't read the newspaper either, or any of those magazines that are full of "news" (fake, or otherwise). Life has been pleasant since I started doing this. Oddly, many of my friends have done the same thing.

Oh, my minuscule Facebook account is history too (thank God on that!)

You made me look closer at W10. Although at one time I was a pretty good DOS user (early to mid 80's), I stated depending on Windows more and more about the time W 3.1 came out in the early 90's. Until W10 came out, I still would occasionally go to the command prompt to do somethings. When I saw this post, I realized I hadn't even seen a DOS window in W10 (Just hadn't needed or looked for it) Anyway, I checked, it's still there for the end user, if they want it.

Hmm- where does one start? I have a favorite economist. I prefer to stay in a local neighborhood rather than a fancy hotel when I travel. I prefer eating at home to eating out. I don't like movies or TV- especially reality TV and violence. I am not on facebook. I don't like to shop. I wear mostly fake jewelry. Told DH he could get me a CZ for an engagement ring, but he didn't believe me. Its the only real diamond I own. Oh, and I want to retire at 46.

Nothing offbeat about any of that...from my* perspective you are the epitome of normality.

(*Of course, that's likely a disqualifier right there.)

They said, "You urgently need the most recent operating system, browser version and virus protection otherwise you are doomed, DOOMED!"

I've generally avoided those for 20 years, yet remain unhacked and virus free.

+1. Happily chugging along with an ancient os and an old desktop.

  • Within 50 years we likely will achieve both biological immortality and total automation (any job a human can do, is automated).
  • Humanity will fracture into several types soon after - first signs of this happening are already present. If we are not on other planets within that time period we'll die out shortly after.
  • It should be normal to be naked around others.
  • Getting privileges and rights based on where you are born doesn't seem normal to me.
  • Living in apartments or separate homes with one or two people is not healthy.
  • Airport security should be completely abolished.
  • Airports should redesign themselves to get people moving, not keeping them there and (expensively) entertained.
  • If a person with children talks about 'saving the planet' by being less wasteful, I think they are hypocrites.

Just a few top of mind, don't know if any of that qualifies.

Why? Honestly I have ZERO desire to see most people naked. Let's face it, most people's bodies are not very close to anyone's idea of perfection. Have you looked around in the locker room at the gym lately? Yuck. We are all working towards a better looking body, but many have not achieved that ideal or anything close to it. This is especially true for older people who, even if thin, have various parts that sag or look bad. Clothes sort of decorate one's body, and partly hide anything ugly or flawed.

If our society evolved into one where everyone had to be naked at all times, I'd be out there with a protest sign marching and chanting "Clothes for all, now!" :)

That's how the new no security air travel works. No clothes no weapons.

I had a friend who went to a nude beach (and got naked) and recommended the experience. Ugh. No thanks. Don't want to see anybody else naked and nothing "freeing" (to me) about people seeing me naked.

We can have a compromise. When we see a naked person who should not be, we will be allowed to vote that person down, using "like", "dislike" as with youtube videos. There will of course be technological ways to identify a person, and if one insists on being naked with too many dislikes, he/she will be taken to jail.

So, we geezers all get to watch beautiful young bodies parading in public spaces while staying safely clothed ourselves.

But, but, how do I protect myself from people who insist on being seen naked in public that should not be?
